Any 'cat' experts out there?

Hello Diesel People,
Can anyone recommend Chicago(as close as possible)area shops that work on Cummins engines(besides Nothern Il Cummins).
Most car type shops won't touch a Diesel(sometmes thats good)and think your nutz for owning it.
Thanks for any help.

Just saw your post and noticed that noone
has responded. I would recommend "Scheid
Diesel" in Effingham, Illinois. They have
three shops which are all owned by Dan
Scheid. Their phone # is: 1-800-669-1934
and their address is: 3120 S. Banker
(Route 45 South), Effingham, Illinois.

They have been in business a long time
and are VERY knowledgable on these trucks.
I have used them for the last 5 years and
am VERY happy with their work and service.

E-mail me if you have any other questions.

Sorry, no. I never had to have any work done on mine. Well, major work. The dealer in McHenry competently repaired the slight damage from the failed heater relay. But if I *had* to, I would trust them to perform repairs; their diesel mech seems to know his stuff. Anything else, I did myself.

But if diesel shops are anything like gas shops, I would suggest you steer clear of Chicagoland. I generally found that good mechanics in Chicagoland are nearly extinct. Your best bet would be to find something outside the urban/suburban area. Elgin might be far enough out. SE WI might be OK.

Now that I'm in VA, living in the hills and barely working, I'm doing great! No more corporate barnyard droppings, no more pecking orders, no prettier-than-thou egos, no screaming jays. Just a simple life of quiet desperation. #ad
What's that? No, I didn't say anything about a mid-life crisis!
