I've been looking for a good QUIET 3/8" air ratchet and finally found one advertised as such. I use my 3/8" air ratchet constantly and the ones I have are all very loud. Chicago Pneumatic makes this one http://www.coptool.com/item-detail.cfm?storeid=1&ID=CP7830Q&CFID=3333985&CFTOKEN=73130071 which can be adjusted down to 79 db and up to 90 ft/lbs of torque which looks real attractive but I have no experience with their tools. Anyone have any that could give a recommendation one way or the other? I see that they make some cheaper tools and some very expensive ones and this looks to be in their better line. Thanks in advance.

I have used the Chicago Pneumatic tools and Ingersoll-Rand. Been happy with both. Even had some el-cheapo ones that were decent for home use.

I'm looking at getting a CP Turbo 7750 2. 0 1/2" drive impact, to replace the IR 321 that somebody lost for me. The 7750 is rated at 600/ 800 ft/lbs, as apposed to the 625 on the IR that I had.

Also looking at the IR2135TI. It's rated at 700/1000.

Steve, thanks for the link. Those are the best prices I have seen on those 2 wrenches yet. Oo.

--Just ordered the IR. :D

Once upon a time Chicago Pneumatic & Ingersoll-Rand were it as far as air tools. I think you'll be OK as long as you stay in their top of the line tools. Both have come out with consumer lines and I don't think the quality is at the same level as the top line/Pro equipment.

Also if the muffler is selectable, you may not get full rated power when it is engaged, you might want to check into that.

I bought the top of the line CP back in the '60s, a 3/8" butterfly and a 1/2" pistol grip. Used them everyday for eight years when I was a auto mechanic. I still have them today and every now and then still use them, they are good tools.

CP sells mostly low end stuff. I normally stay only with IR air tools. If the tool is made in China, it is junk, Japan and Taiwan are much better for standards of manufacturing. I always like to tell people if your going to try to skimp on tools, don't even buy them in the first place since it turns into a waste of money and time.

i bought my Ingersoll-Rand 2135TI

1/2 gun when it 1st came out and they had it cheaper

than sears by 60. 00 so its worth a look

Thanks for the comments guys I'm going to give it a try. I've spent about a grand with thetoolwarehouse.net in the last couple months - they do have good prices on a lot of stuff although many things you can find even cheaper elsewhere. The 2135ti is one for example. There are a number of tool vendors on Ebay that I've gotten good service and prices out of and you can get the 2135ti for under $200 (it's $228 at thetoolwarehouse). I'm working on buying a 2135qti and a 2115qti right now - they are the quiet versions of that same impact gun.

i've got a CP air ratchet at work and it is alright, but mine is broke right now. the head is worn out... if i am doing engine work, it gets used all the time, and now it is just plain worn out. i can grab my socket and hold it stationary while the air motor is turning... it lasted about 1. 5 years... need to get it rebuilt, then it should be good for another 1. 5 years before rebuilding again [engine carbon in the ratchet head is abrasive... ]

dang steve..... only one for air tools... ..... but seriously be careful of any of te ti's they dont stand up to daily use the hammer cage and anvil goes kapput fast... ... ... .
