I was sitting in traffic yesterday-stopped in 2nd, with clutch in-the chime sounded. I did not have the turn signal on-I wonder if it was because I was sitting too long with clutch in-baye I was easing off a littlke bit-but had not noticed RPM drop-construction delay was reason-probably 5 minutes-it was not hot, and oil pressure looked good. The only code is P0630 VIN Not Programmed in PCM, which has been in there since the dealer enabled the passenger side airbag switch-I think that is how they were able to do it because the ECM could identify quad cab config from VIN, and wouldn't allow switch to be enabled. Is there any way to see why the chime sounded? Is there a list of what can cause it to chime?

Robert,

I have the same problem... I believe that there is a bad ground in the truck somewhere, my "lamp out" light comes on intermittently weather the lights are on or not. I'm going to try to find it in the tail lights(as one of our esteemed college's pointed out) or head lights first. If anyone else has any ideas I would like to hear them.

Gregg:cool:

As you have a diesel engine there is no PCM the P0630 error per the "2004 Powertrain Diagnostic Procedures" manual says for a diesel "P0630-VIN NOT ENTERED ERROR". Set condition: The VIN was not calibrated into the ECM.

OK, I mixed up ECM and PCM-either way I think the dealer wiped this out to get the passenger air bag switch enabled, as this code did not show up until after I got it back from them enabling the switch-and I figured the the ECM "knew" from the VIN that it was a quad cab, thus no airbag switch-so the only way to enable it was to wipe the VIN out-they have not told me for sure, but I have asked twice...

Could be that is what happened as I have not looked to see if there is a real programable setting using the DRB to allow for the AIR BAG switch. I though somebody else on one of the forums added the switch and stated the dealer set a value and all was ok and no errors happened.

the dealer and i set the airbag switch together ...

can't remember the steps 'cause it only took a couple of minutes

we definitely didn't have to do anything with the vin ...

it was under an abbreviation he and i didn't understand

something like opsru ...

really sorry about the vague post

but i know you can do it quickly without the vin

it was not an enable/disable it was more like telling the obdIII to scan the airbag switch

again sorry for the vague-ness

maybe someone on here could plug in a diagnostic tool and read off the options

i'd know it if i saw it again

it was an acronym for one of the systems

wish i could help more, don't get too frustrated, it'll be an easy fix once you find someone who is familiar with the tool

I wouldn't sit there for 5 min with the clutch pushed in if i were you. Your throw out and pilot bearing isn't going to last long like that.

Yeah, I should put it in neutral-helps the old foot out too :D

Well I connected my DRBIII (running ver 59 software) up and ran a module scan and it found an "ORD 2004' and when I highlite the entery and press enter I get another menu that has "MISCELLANEOUS" for the last enter and when I select that one option comes up "AOSIM" and when I select that I tells me the status of whether an "Airbag ON/OFF switch is installed" and then allows you to change it or skip back.

So it sounds like if the dealer cleared the VIN it was not for that - I don't know if they cleared it, but that code did not show up until after I got it back. All they did was enable the airbag switch (I had installed it-that took 10 minutes, and I could do it in about 3 after doing it once) and reflash w/update 18-007-04. They charged me about $88 to enable the switch-which I though was high, but I'm kind of over a barrel since I don't have the tool-I had NHTSA approval, and they made me sign a waiver.
