I am trying to determine which chip / box to add on to my o4. 5 6 speed. My overall goal I hope to achieve is simple, first is better fuel economy and second is more power when towing. I am content with the current power when pulling my 5th wheel, however, a little more is always better. If anyone has the time to maybe explain the differences between TST, Edge, Banks etc.

Thanks for the help.

I've used a lot of different vendors products. VA, TST, Edge, Bullydog, SP Diesel and Quadzilla. All of them gave me an improvement in fuel mileage.

TCordero,

I have a similarly equipped '03, other than the Pacbrake. I decided to go with the Van Aaken C-3. 2 (duration-only) box because I did not want a high preasure box. The Rockteck will give you a bit of timing which will make for a pretty good combination.

A lot has to do with what you want to do in the future, regarding HP levels. If you are looking to make really high HP, one of the boxes like TST's or others will allow you to grow into those levels.

My needs were pretty simple. I wanted a little more power, better fuel economy, wanted to be able to "safely" tow with the box & I didn't want to have to start buying turbo's, fuel pumps, etc.

If you don't have guages, maybe the Edge J/A would be something to consider. You get a multi-level power box & the guages. The box gives you duration, timing & a slight amount of safe preasure. I would have seriously considered that option but, I already had guages & didn't want to pay for them, again. Depending on your needs, it seems like a nice box.

I'm very happy with the VA box. It has more power than I need or thought it would have. The fuel economy seems to have gone up. The power is very smooth, like you don't have a box on the truck.

Hope this helps.

Had the triple bully dog recommended to me by 2 dealers. Run it on the tow setting and have seen a + 2mpg empty and a solid +1 towing and these figures are hand calculated. I don't run gauges (dealers said not to worry as long as stay at the tow setting) so haven't tried any stronger settings. Do like the extra smooth power.

I have ran the edge juice/ez combo with a single turbo and have the bullydog power pup stacked with the tst. Here is my 2 cents worth.

The edge juice/ez stack was great, I had stock turbo and clutch and I could run everything maxed safely (at least I did for 40K miles). If you wanted to do a small turbo and get a better single disk clutch, you would get decent power with out the high price of twins/big single or a heafty priced dual disk clutch.

The tst twin flash/crazy larry (bullydog power pup) is totally awesome if you want raw out flat ***** power. I am currently running that now with a haisley dd and twins, and man does it make that truck boggie. The only downfall that annoys me is with the crazy larry on "kill" mode and the tst on anything higher then 4x4, there is A LOT of timing noise, but thats what you get I guess when your maniuplating it that much.

Just my . 02, hope it helps

I have the triple dog

The bully dog smoothed out the rpm range on my truck on the tow setting. The triple dog can be left hooked up and change settings on the fly but I disconncted mine and leave it on tow/economy. I have yet to get some gauges to see what the exhaust temp is running so I have not pushed it very hard when pulling heavy loads. At 75 empty, I get a little over 17 and expect to see it get better when broken in. I have 6,000 on it now. Driving to work which is 40 miles round trip with only a couple of lights and speed limit of 55, I see 20. 6

I ordered the Bully Dog Triple Dod Crazy Larry yesterday and was wondering how it increases Power. Doe's it increase pressure or modify the duration of the injectors. I am new at this so I am just fishing.

Was told by the Bully Dog folks and the Dodge dealers that tow setting is timing and duration only, performance adds some pressure but is supposed to be below the max. Was told by the dealers tow whatever in the tow setting and no worry but not to do on performance(think torque is the issue). Don't want to mess up the transmission(48RE). So far towed thru the Ozarks to TX with a double pull ( 15,500) and back single (11,000)with no problems.

I'm certainly no expert but what i've been told tracks with my readings etc.

As an update to my search for a computer...

I contacted my dealer today and they recommended one of 3 boxes, Dr. Performance, Bully Dog or Banks (in no particular order). They also recommended I stay away from the Edge products. Still unsure which box to go with... .

Out of the four products that your dealer has mentioned... ... ... ... ..... I would recommend that you stay away from your dealer. What I'm getting at is, I have had three CTD's and they all have had Edge products and they have been great!

Do a search and read about these products before you listen to you dealer, or even me for that matter. :-laf

The search function on the TDR is great. You will have a better much better understanding of the products available to you, It just requires alot of reading to make an informed choice for added power.
