Looking at getting a toybox TT about 28' long.

Like the best:

Desert fox 28TB. Has nice interior wood, pull down rear bunk and front bed with walkthru bath. Has Gen and even a Quick connect LP for the BBQ grille. 35 gal fuel tank and fueling station. 4 "E" rate tires at 13,500 GVW total for the trailer. Fibreglass sides, AC and Ducted... rear screen wall

Second best:

Vortex Wanderer by thor. Ultra wide body of 102" exterior, Different decor avail incl. Racing colors. (I like wood color) All the same of the Desert fox but also has a semi automatic tank flush system, Diamond plate on the side as well as on the front, Only has 4 "D" Tires at 11,600 GVW.

See it here http://www.thorindustries.com/scripts/wdb.exe/pgget?st=th_fwork&pg=th_frame&cmp=11&year=2003

Both trailers are about the same price, the desert fox at $28 or 29K and the Vortex is on sale at $30K Like the Desrt fox the best because of the weight rating and E tires.

Northwood Manufacturing

The Artic Fox/Desert Fox/Nash trailers IMHO, seem to be built better.

They have a 5th wheel version of the toy box out but I don't see it on their web site. You might want to call if you don't want the bumper pull.

Thinking about getting this hitch to go on it.

I cannot comment on either of the trailers specifically, but I really like my Fox 5er. Very well built. Northwood support has been very good.

My wife and I looked at both of these when we were shopping. The Vortex had a gaudy racing inspired interior which my wife hated.

I liked the heavier chassis on the Fox. It had a higher deck height and better angle of departure than all the units we looked at. However, the wife didn't like the layout of the interior, and the fit and finish on the unit we looked at didn't seem to be top notch.

We wound up getting a Weekend Warrior 26FS and are quite happy with it.

If it were solely up to me I would have had no problem getting the Fox.

I have been looking at an Artic Fox 5W lately, it seems to be a well built high quality unit. Better than most I've seen.

My $o. o2

Fireman

You can get in trouble with those 102" wide rigs in some parts of the USA. In PA the 102" is ok, but then hand an awning on it and your around 108", the local cops are thought to look for these!

Also, here is why I don't like Thor. Here is the nada resale value on that rig only 1 year old.

Model: M-287 TB

Length/Width: 31' x 8'

Axles: 2

Weight: 6,220

Self-Contained: YES

Low Retail: $13,500

Average Retail: $16,270

I could not find the Fox value

GO FOX

I'd take the Fox. THey are just all around built better. You can add your own diamond plate if you want, and what exactly is a semi-automatic flush?? Sounds like one of the aftermarket gizmo's that you can put in yourself for 50 bucks. Dont get lured in by gee-whiz ammenities. Your going to hauling a lot of $$ back there, you want something thats going to take the abuse.

Re: GO FOX

I put an automatic flush in my Terry. It was a yellow plastic hose piece that mounted in the black water tank. I ran a hose out to the side of the camper. I hook the water hose to it and it strays water through the holding tank. Works great to remove paper from the holding tank level probes. Cost less then $10. 00 and an hour labor.

I was going to put a valve on it and hook it to the fresh water system of the RV, but I run a pressure regulator on the RV, and the flusher works better with high pressure. Plus I don't like the idea of hooking the 2 systems together (fresh and black water) If something did go wrong, it could get ugly. (although the flusher has a check valve in it, and Lots of RV's do have this valve between the 2 systems. )

One of those has been on my list of To-Dos for a loooong time. Just never seem to get around to it. I wonder if the system that Thor has is connected to the trailers water system. Or if its "semi-automatic", if that means its an externally liquified sprayer????

It's External You hook a hose to it like the fresh water connection.

Well I went and bought a class 5 reciever so I can haul up to 14K with Weight Dist..... Found out I have a class 3 on here:mad:

Ordered the Class 5 hitch for $139. Rated for 14K with WD

Ordered the Hensley hitch, Bought the Jacobs E-brake. , and brake controller,

A 28' Desert fox aluminum Sidewall is being made with my name on it, will be here July 20. Aluminum side is lighter and $1300 cheaper... . Gonna buy it for abouth $23K + tax. GVWR on it is 13,500 and it weighs empty 7400 so lots of room for stuff!

It will look like the pics above but with aluminum sides... .

If your hauling bikes, just watch leaning one on the aluminum, it don't take much to put a dent in it.

If your hauling Quads, don't park where you will get rocks thrown at it! in fact don't park anything where it will get rocks thrown at it.

Also keep in mine how dusty those quad parking lots get. park far away, or clean the inside for hours when you get home.

Just installed the Jacobs E-brake today... . took about 3 hours to do. Not a bad system, uses a pin on the ECM to "see" where your throttle is, when at idle, it works, when you touch the throttle, it goes off. Also a on-off switch in the cab.

Took the POS Class 3 hitch off..... anybody want it?

Hitch and brake controller should get here in a few days... .

I know how vulnerable the Aluminum Siding is. We used to have 2 different 5th wheels that were aluminum..... Gonna make a cover either from wood attached to our garage for a carport kind of thing and plastic cover... ... or one one of those pipe structure covers.

Gonna replace all the marker lights with LED lights. the tail lights are special kind but I can use round base LED bulbs for that. Thinking about running a signal to the side of the trailer midships for letting the idiot beside me know what I want to do... .

Almost guaranteed not to have a light out. I have 25 LED lights on my truck and not one has failed in 3 yrs... ...

I am buying a 18 gal. plastic tank to mount where the spare had gone, $139 for it and some acc. like guage and hoses and the like..... better cost effectiveness... ...

goto www.westmarine.com and see part # 381939 for the tank... ... and for the guage, #105140

there are things called a deck plate fill, a cap and plate for the decks of boats but will work anywhere..... All total for this is $230 for me and I get 18 gallons more for towing.....

BOY! this bombing thing is adictive!!!:D I spent in the last 2 days about $4800 ... ... $2840 was the hensley hitch!!

610 for the E-brake

139 for the cl. 5 hitch

60 for the brake controller

800 for holding money for the trailer, gonna use that for part of the down payment.....

The trailer will be about $24,000. can get 5. 29% rate for 12 yr.
