drive shaft leaks

A full year of lurking in the shadows is enough.

I've twice lost the rear driveline u-joint -- at 22,000 miles, and again at 39,000 miles. It's mostly non-towing, unloaded, highway miles for a 130 mile round-trip daily commute.

Anyone else hear of this problem, or am I just blessed?

Yup, me too. Replaced all three in the rear driveline at 44000 miles. Something is still a little out of balance though, got to go over it again. If anyone ever suddenly hears a sound as if your throwing stones against a pie pan, its your rear u-joint sticking, and its ringing down the drive shaft. Aint that a weird one?

Check your driveline angle.

I presume that you do not have the mid-ship bearing support found on the ext. /quad cabs?

Also, get the Dana/Spicer part # 5-160X and replace the overpriced mopar unit.

Four Wheel Parts Wholesalers has a great buy, but if you are in need in a hurry your Napa offers the same joint in their box and uses the Spicer # if memory serves correct. The new joint will come with a grease zerk too!

I grew up in Thermopolis, how's the economy in "coal country" ?

Andy

Thanx, Andy. Good stuff. I'll print this out, since my problems likely aren't over.
Regarding the coal economy, life is good! The price has doubled as half the country is trying to keep the lights on in California... #ad
