I for one think its pretty neat, it may be a sales tactic, but as a Chrysler-loyal customer, it says to everyone else "Put up or shut up. " Of course Ive never had to deal with any warranty issues, and the warranty would be void after I started modding, but its kinda cool that all the best brands, Mercedes, BMW, Audi, or any US ones, dont offer this. Guaranteed they wil now, because "oh no! Chryslers got one up on us!" Watch...

Ahhh they dont last over 5 years anyways :-laf

seems to me that they will keep an eye on your records as well. Im just guessing but if you dont take your vehicle to the dealer lets say in 5 years and the trans goes out they will be quick to void your warranty EVEN IF you take your car to JiffyLube and have it changed..... I can see the storm clouds darkening already!

From New Dodge Lifetime Powertrain Limited Warranty - Cars, Trucks, SUVs, Minivans, Crossovers, Wagons - Warranties

*See dealer for a copy of limited warranty and details. Non-Transferable. Not available on SRT, Diesel vehicles, Sprinter, Ram Chassis Cab, and certain fleet vehicles.

ON PURCHASES BEGINNING 7/26/07

Well, my hopes were up for the first 30 seconds... . :( Notice it does't cover the vehicles they sell that get used or have to actually work for a living or that people will actually keep more than the first 5 years. They are counting on the majority of people to trade or resell before the 5 year mark. #@$%!

D/C longevity.

Owned a '92 Dodge minivan for twelve years and 133,000 miles. It had the 3. 0 Mitsubishi motor which was inferior to the D/C V-6 and the three speed transmission, much more reliable than the fabled four speed. Sold it to a finish carpenter who kept it three more years. Some D/C products did last.

I've had my '02 in for 2 warranty issues - a passenger side mirror that drifted out of adjustment in a short time, and a leaking vacuum pump seal - no problem with either replacement... BUT... .

There are PLENTY of reports seen regularly here from guys who got shafted by their local dealers - often on trumped up reasons for voided warranties. A "warranty" is no better than the shop YOU have to take your vehicle in to for service work, regardless of the hype the main office puts out for PR - and few of us have the $$$, time or patience to fight a denied warranty - and you can bet a "Lifetime Warranty" will have all the loopholes a Philadelphia Lawyer could dream up - and THEN some!

I'd certainly not get too excited about this one... ;)

It's an interesting concept to say the least. I wonder if there will be restrictions on vehicle usage such as towing, etc.

I can almost GUARANTEE that there will be loopholes that the dealer wont tell you about until you are about ready to sign on the dotted line. Example: my dealer (as well as many others) offer "tires for life" which is the biggest crock in the auto industry. I, in not so many words, told the salesman that when I bought mine :-laf. Certainly, they will replace your tires when you wear them out, and believe me, they will need to be really worn, and here is the kicker: As owner of that vehicle, you must do ALL of your maintenance at said dealership. And I do mean everything. And at their recommended intervals. Oil changes, rotations, alignments, inspections, EVERYTHING. They keep the schedule on their computer, mail you appointment times, miss even one, you're done. So lets say that at 50,000 miles it is time for new tires, you may very well have spent upwards of a grand or more on their services, where as you could have told them to go stuff the maintenance in their pipe and smoke it, a grand can buy you one heck of a nice set of tires, alot better than the stockers they will replace them with.

This new warranty is on the same lines as my description above. But add in gear oil, transmission, transfer case oils, ect ect... You get my drift.

Then the fine print, bottom of the page.

Warranty void if engine is started and vehicle put into gear.
