I am interested in increaseing my b to b to 7/100,000. I have a cummins so I have 7/100 on major engine components. . and 7/70 on powertrain, however I would like to have everything covered until 7 years 100K. Naturally I have a few ?'s.

1. I think I really want a Chrysler warranty, but do not want to pay retail. What do you folks think I should pay . . and can Tommy Gunn help out.

2. Is it really bumper to bumper, including labor, i. e. my transmission goes at 99K, all I have is a $100 deductible right?

Finally, I have a 2005 Quad 4x4 larimie, auto, short box. I am more than willing to hear about what some people have paid.

Thanks,

William

P. S. if you don't want to post, e-mail me at dodge at wrdouglas.com

Personally, I would never purchase another extended warranty from DC again. I was so frustrated at one point I swore to sell the truck and never purchase another Dodge again! But as they say “time heals everything”. Well, at least some things.

I purchased the extended warranty to 100k with the added care option which offers a loaner car from day 1 – no matter what you bring the truck in for – no questions asked. Or at least that is the way the salesman stated it. I later found out the majority of dealers don’t have a loaner car fleet so they give you $30/day allowance for a rental. Not something I want to deal with when my truck is down and I’ve got to get to work. At least not when I pay extra for this service and was lead to believe THEY give you a loaner car and not some rental agency 10 miles away. And then you have to PROVE to the service manager that you are entitled a loaner car from day one (for an oil change for example) while, even though they are dealer who sold me the truck, doesn’t know anything about this added care option and can’t help me.

As for the repairs, it would seem DC gives kickbacks to every dealer for every warranty claim they can deny. Or at least it seems that way cause every time I brought my truck in they can’t find anything wrong with it, or can’t reproduce the problem. If the problem is obvious (i. e. truck doesn’t start) then ok. But if you, for example, say the A/C isn’t cold enough or freezes up because its low on Freon then good luck. If you have a vibe on take off on 1st or second gear then good luck. If your engine stumbles above 2k rpms then good luck. If your truck pulls to one side they’ll say you hit something and that isn’t covered under warranty.

Just my experience and opinions. I’m sure there are some people who swear by the warranty and dealer service. To them I say “You’ve been lucky, and one day your luck will change!”

If you just have to throw the money away throw it away on a manufactures warranty if you can get it, I'm sure they'll be happy to take your money :-laf . I've heard Clark Howard go over this in the past and anything else is just a shot in the dark. The odds are against you ever needing it but if the money is no object more power to ya.

It appears that eservice is selling the contracts at employee costs or a little better.

With a guaranteed set of U-joints all the way around, at least one set of ball joints, rear-ends that take significant abuse, and an auto trans that can be overtaxed, the $1360 bucks for the contract could be a decent hedge on out of pocket expenses down the road.

An AC compressor replacement at over $1000 would pay for half on my extended warrarnty. I had the AC compressor replaced in my 01 at less than 36,000 miles under factory warranty. It could happen again. Around here, the AC is as important as the CTD.

Xtend warranty

I must advocate on behalf of the 7/100K extended warranty. I know the odds favor the manufacturer but these trucks are not exactly bullet proof either. Since buying my X-warranty at 48,000 miles I have had $600 worth of work done on my A/C unit (including pulling out the dash to get to the blower doors), three U-joints replaced, and now I am having $1100 worth of work done replacing all four ball joints. Part of this included providing me with a rent car for two days.

I have 55,000 miles on the truck now, which means I have 45,000 more miles of covered driving left. If history repeats itself and the U- and ball joints crater one more time I will have recovered every dime the extended warranty cost. If mine were a Japanese car I would say don't buy the warranty. But Dodge ... I dunno. It's up to the owner, I guess. Reading these posts suggests to me it's a good idea.

And yes, the 5,007 mechanical parts covered under the warranty suggests it is bumper to bumper, although normal wear items obviously are not covered. Check out the brochure provided by the dealer; it's pretty darn straight forward.

Yep, that is correct. I opted for the extended warranty because if I don't use it, I get the full amount I paid back in a check. If I need it, I'll really need it! It was a no-brainer!

I bought the warranty when I bought my last two 3 gen trucks. In my onw case, I feel it is highly worth it. I feel it is an insurance policy as if I didnt have it, I surely would need it! I can use mine even if I drop my truck off for a oil change, get a rental and pick it up later that day or the following morning. I also have the zero deductable which is nice. There was only a few hundred bucks between that and the ones with deductables. I paid for the best one. . The D/C Maxi Care 1st day rental zero deductable 7/100k. Very happy I did and would do it again. Right now, my truck is for sale due to my wife in Med School. If I sell the truck, the buyer can keep the warranty for an extra price and transfer it to their name or just buy the truck and Ill sell it back to Chrysler. Very easy! I sold back the one I had with my 04 2500 when I bought my 04. 5. Very simple and I got a full refund less a $50 processing fee. Highly worth it! :D

I bought the extended on my 01. 5. First new truck. I don't remember the details but sold the truck at around 24k to buy the 03 and never had to use it. I know that NJT is correct on one thing. I took my 03 in @ 30K for the valve cover loose oil leak. At the time I didn't know what the cause was but the leak was extremely easy to see on the drivers side on top of the head by the fuel filter. Told the service manager exactly where I had seen oil. Dropped the truck off in the morning and returned after work that afternoon to hear "we can't see an oil leak" Have had similar experience with two other Dodge vehicles. Not saying its better with other brands but I know the problem is there with Dodge.
