Fuel in Engine Oil

I have been trying some different Smarty programs and all of them make my truck chug and try to keep going. It does it mostly when I accellerate and then let of the throttle, and it acts like the truck wants to keep going?

Kind of dangerous in my opinion!

Also I notice a slight chug when just crusing at highway speeds, I can maintain 60 mph and pull a slight hill and then once I crest the hill and the load goes away I fill the chug.

When I reomve the smarty I don't notice it then, any ideas or suggestions?

I like the power of the smarty but will do without it if this problem doesn't go away.

Thanks

Dustin

" all of them make my truck chug " Huh?:confused::confused:

That description makes no sense whatsoever. :-laf

The engine not shutting down as soon as you lift off the throttle is typical of the common rail systems. The rail pressure has to bleed down slowly or it will spike. Added fueling just takes longer to bleed off the excess. You have to drive them a bit different than a jerk pump. :)

It sounds like your lifting your foot too soon. I don't recall the exact term. Basically you're trying to bark the turbo. This is bad. Lift your foot slowly. Had a similar issue with my modified 96'. A slight change in driving style will fix this.

It's not turbo bark, I know what that is, and for lack of better term, the truck chugs.

I guess cerberusiam since your a genius, what word would you use to describe the symptom, and what were the 2 questions I asked?

chug: a dull explosive sound made by or as if by a laboring engine

Thats what the definition of chug is, cerber you might want to let your wife know!

Mine would run on with the 4. 2 set on the higher settings. 4. 4 doesn't run on. I believe one of the Chrysler updates causes this. Folks with larger injectors seem to have more problems with this.

I call the phenomenon a hung throttle, and yes CERB on my truck it happens on ALL Smarty tunes. Normally it happens if I let off the throttle going into the 3-4 shift. Snoxracer, a very quick stab on the throttle will usually solve the issue.

I'd say you have a mechanical problem somewhere then. If your throttle is truly hanging that would explain it on yours, not the posters. Mine has never done anything like that on any tune. The run on is typical with the CR engines but it should eventually idle down without having to touch the throttle again. If it doesn't there is an issue with the programming and/or ECU and/or cables.

It took me 48 hours after I bought my truck to conclude too much throttle in a parking lot dramatically increased the pucker factor. ;)

I still maintain that if your engine does this: "chug: a dull explosive sound" when you let off the throttle there is a MAJOR problem somewhere.

Dude you don't get it, it ONLY happens with Smarty. So I guesse I have a mechanical problem that gets fixed everytime I unload smarty and broke again when I reload smarty. Not likely.

Personally I think its an interaction between smarty, apps, and trans lockup.

Well I have to go drive my mechanically broken (which I fixed by removeing the Smarty) truck to fill up with $3. 50 diesel  and go to work. Have a good day guys and get out there and kill some deer.

I'm having a similar problem with the MP-8, If its turned up and i have to go from on it hard to stoping realy quick there just isn't enough brakes to hold 4 tons and a cummins that wants to go.

I believe you are not understanding the term chug. A kaboom is a dull explosive sound, here the term chug is an oscillation in RPM. The way I read this is RMalone has an rpm issue that makes the rig feel like it is chugging. In other words, it feels like the engines RPM is rising and dropping in a rhythm. My 04. 5 did this at times and it was stock.

My advice is call Bob and talk to him about this problem.

Hope you had some luck today.
