I have a pair of electric CIPA tow mirrors on the way, anyone with experience with these, good or bad, just want some feel for the product. I just bought um because I always wanted flat mirrors on both sides passenger and drivers side, it's nice to have depth perception on the passenger side. I didn't want the old style swing out mirrors, and was considering the new flip out style when I read "Earthroamer's" article in issue 38, that did it. As a side note I need to give praise and props to Genos Garage and all who work there, they are great, I always got great fast service. When I ordered my CIPA's I accidentally doubled ordered it, I ordered it over the internet at about midnight Thursday, I immediately e-mailed them and faxed them with my problem but I was worried my credit card would get double charged so I set my alarm to wake me up at 3a. m. Friday morning so I could catch them as soon as they opened, (I'm here in Hawaii), when the woman at Genos answered I explained my situation. She asked me for my name and when I gave it to her she said "what are you doing calling me so early in the morning from Hawaii?!", I was like how did she know I'm calling from Hawaii?, just so happens she was e-mailing me a response as I called, she had gotten my e-mail and fax, she had taken cared of everything for me as I wished, and assured me everything was all set. She then said "now go back to bed", I told her they were terrific! Great service and caring, whew, can't find much of that nowadays. Way to go Genos! Oo.

Two of my buddies have them on their Chebies and both love the CIPA mirrors. FWIW

I put them on my 96 in September and took it on a 3000 mile vacation towing a travel trailer. The only thing I regret is not doing this a few years ago!! I love the 10X10 mirror head. Genos also took care of me very well. It seems that CIPA had some sets packaged wrong and the right side mirror would not fit my truck. Genos steped up and phoned, emailed and faxed me and had a replacement rushed to me from CIPA.

I've had them for just over a year and am in the process of returning them for a refund. I bought them directly from Lucerix/Automirrorsource. Mine had a vibration problem so Lucerix sent me a second set and they vibrated worse than the originals. It seems to be hit or miss whether the X-mounts will vibrate or not. A lot of members have been very happy with them, some have had issues like I've had. The large glass sure is nice though:(

I was in the same boat.

I bailed out on the second set and picked up a set of the flip ups. I hate them and I'm thinking about going back to the clip ons!!! They vibrate and when I try to "wrong side it" into a driveway, I can't see the trailer in the dark because the idiots put the convex in the wrong corner. Plus the convex is odd shapped and kills visual acuiity unless the object viewed is dead center.

The CIPA's (if they don't vibrate and move full range) are the best. But getting a good set might drive you crazy!

I got mine 2 summers ago, and they work fine.

Even towing 75 mph into a headwind on a 2 lane road and a semi coming the other way they are rock steady. Oo.

Ditto on the solid mounts. Mine have no vibration whatever, they are rock solid. They come with a thick reinforcing bracket which is why they are so solid. Those that vibrated, were you by any chance missing the reinforcing brackets?

Anybody buy CIPA style mirrors from

Northern tool? I saw that northern has CIPA like? mirrors they look the same but don't list electric/heated just manual or electric any idea's? there are a little cheaper like 329. 99 for electric and 299. 99 for manuals just curious if they are as good?

Both sets had the reinforcing bracket and I installed them per the instructions.

I installed the passenger side mirror from the second set and it vibrated at idle sitting in my driveway. I double checked the torque on the mounting bolts and it didn't make a difference.

If I could get a set that didn't vibrate I'b very happy with them. It's just that for that amount of money they vibrate way too much IMO.

At the moment, the cheapest price I have seen is from:www.acmetruckparts.com. Mine seem to work fine with no vibration. The only complaint I have with them is that they seem to hold water after going to the carwash. Then they leave some water spots on the doors for a few hours later.

Put mine on 2 weekends ago. Took about 35 minutes to install and directions were clear and concise. What a great view they give you. AGAIN, WHY DONT THEY COME FROM THE FACTORY WITH THESE!

Enjoy

Those with vibration problems, did it look like you could maybe use some sort of bushing or spacer to reduce the vibration?

I couldn't feel any vibration in the housings. It felt like there was too much slop in the 'gimbal' that the glass is mounted on. I refuse to use my dad's method of reducing mirror vibration on ~$450 mirrors. He cut small pieces of foam tape and stuff it in between the glass and housing on his $40 clip-on CIPA mirrors.
