Got a new sensor from Cummins and find out it is different from the one in the block. Anyone know the correct one? The parts guy at Cummins spent alot of time making sure he gave me the right one for my 1999 engine #.
Thanks for the reply. Got the right part this time, now having a hard time getting the old one out! I've twisted and pulled for about 30 minutes. I'm about to put it all back together and go to the dealer The o ring must swell or something. I'm afraid I'll break it off.
I don't have a lot of posts out there, but I do have one that had me replacing this sensor at the stealer... it was painful (for me). Stealer apparently had the problem you experience getting the sensor out (they broke it off in the hole, they said it was seized in place by rust) and then they expected me to pay for their lack of skill, knowledge and ability despite the fact they never changed their estimate. You might be better off breaking it in the removal process yourself (yes, I'm babbling)... but if your stealer likes you it might be a warranty item. I think this is the link to the prior posting:
... otherwise search my name and look for a post w/ intermittent tach &/or P1693 in the title. You might also try a seach on the crank position sensor to see what others have said about removal.
