I did not know it, but Paccar, the parent company for Peterbilt and Kenworth trucks introduced a new class 5 truck in 08'

They also built a new engine factory and call them Paccar Engines. However the 6. 7 and 8. 3 look very simular to Cummins. They do not mention Cummins but do talk about DAF as a partner.

The new class 5 truck is rated to 19,500 lbs GVW. Comes with the Paccar PX-6 rated from 200-300 hp and 520-660 trq. Allison 5 or 6 spd, Eaton 6 spd direct or overdrive, 8,000 lbs front Dana axle, 11,500 rear Dana axle, 245/70R 19. 5's, 152"-245" wheel base, Hyd. brakes, tilt hood and one 35 gallon saddle tank or two 30 gallon, 4x2 reg. cab only. I want one:-laf

Sounds like the typical IH or FL box truck. Only real difference is probably the grill design and the nameplate. All of them, regardless of brand name, are put together using common parts and components.

Peterbilts are nice trucks. I drove a 75 Pete COE with a Cat and 13 spd Roadranger, that thing would freaking fly. It was a long wheelbase single axle pulling a GVW of 50K. Diesel was about a buck a gallon then. Looks like they will make good tow trucks.

Sorry, ya gotta go to the Paccar web site, I can't post pictures:confused:

Yes, the Pete and KW are simular to other makes in this size, however so are the Chevy, Ford and Dodge. Besides, there is the cool factor of the "mini Pete"!

Not that I need a class 5 truck or would by one, but I would like to see Dodge use larger clutch/transmission combos in this size. The pickup size they currently use is too small. Also Chevy, Ford and even IHC do not offer a manual transmission in class 5.

Hey Texas Ted, close but no cigar. That truck is at least a class 6. The class 5 has rectangular fuel tanks, 19. 5's and smaller overall. Also that engine looks like the Paccar PX-8. The PX-6 has a valvle cover like the 6. 7 Cummins.
