Have a good friend that has a 95 M-11 cummin's 335 hp truck has power in 1st n 2nd but feel's like it fall's on it's face after second he has had pump rebuilt new injector's and is pulling his hair out trying to find out what's wrong . I know we have a couple big rig mechanic's anybody have a Idea what to check ? He is having pump tested today but isn't good with computer's so I told him I would try to lend a hand . could it be Cam pos sensor? or something that he has missed ? it doesn't have a cel so he's kinda stumped .

Thank's Guy's

Val

Does it emit heavy black smoke? Does it build normal boost? Egt?

Along with the above questions how does the turbo sound???

Has he checked for a blown air to air hose??? That will numb a Class 8 up big time... ... ... assuming that it has a charge air cooler in front of or built in to the radiator.

I think it will have a charge air cooler at that horsepower.

What brand of truck is it??

Mike.

Hey Mike I want to say Peterbuilt but I will double check . He has checked the inner cooler and it's blowing fine it has new turbo, injector's and pump he was going to get it tested today so I will know more later today on how pump turned out . He did say when it fall's on it's face it bellow's black smoke . any idea what to check next ?

the rocker box on a L-10/M-11 is part of the intake check for crankcase pressure under boost,or pull the valve cover and check the ports between 1&2,3&4,5&6. there is also a boost reference signal line that runs from the fuel pump to the head just above the fuel pump. do you know if it is an stc engine?

Oh man, the dreaded STC... . one of Cummin's not so great ideas. I thought of it but was unsure if a '95 would have had that.

Simplysmn, try and score the ESN so we can see what it may have.

Mike.

Pretty sure STC went away with electronic engine control. Does it run rough when it loses power? Also this doesn't go along with the black smoke but try running a suction hose from the pump or filter head back into the fuel tank fill hole to rule out restriction in the fuel lines.

Well just a little update he had a shop look at it and they found a couple boost leak's and fixed them but never hooked it too a computer to see deeper into it . got a call he's on his way to Texas with a load of car's and said it run's fine on flat land slow but ok but the Min he hit's a hill it bellow's Black and fall's on it's face down to 40 mph or less Mike I want to say truck is a 95-96 I want to say this is last yr to run it in Ca. and after this yr he has to get a newer truck .

Several years ago, my BIL was driving for a guy that had bought a really nice Louisville triaxle dump truck with a Cat. It was a dog and they figured it had been turned down, so they had it reflashed and turned up in a couple steps. A bit better, but mostly more smoke and EGT. Finally, a shop replaced the intercooler and that solved it. By then it was so tuned up that it was downright radical. My BIL was the only guy the owner would trust to drive it without tearing it up. I'd wager this car hauler is in the same boat.

I'm still stuck on that as well, bad hose or charge air cooler.

I have seen defective charge air coolers that did not leak unless warm, those are a real bit** to troubleshoot.

Mike.

Unless you are hard of hearing, you will hear a boost leak. Someone at some point may have stuffed a rag in the charge air cooler and forgot to remove it. Make sure the air cleaner/filter has no obstructions, like a rats nest:)
