Anyone have any suggestions? I've looked at Putnam and Valley as well as the DCX version.

This is a 28 + 5 pintle hitch with a 5' tongue (overall length is 33') weight is approx 7k

Class V is good for what 15k lbs? The rule of thumb is 10-15% on the tongue which would be 1500-2250lbs. That sure seems like a lot though, I hope you are running a dually. That trailer might try to drive a srw right into the ditch. Did you check with the manufacturer of the hitch?

We set our axles at a 65% offset which works out to typically 20% on the tongue. This trailer was designed for a tandem dual dump truck and things have worked out to where it has to be taken to WA state. I hate pull-behind trailers:(

I've talked to several manufactures of hitches and they say the rating is the rating.

Well 20% of 7k is only 1400lbs, you shouldn't have any trouble with that. Not that any of us should push the ratings but, you know that for liability purposes they are understating the true capabilities. I suspect the worst thing will be the drivers sore back from hauling that no doubt bouncy bugger half way across the country. I'm with you, can't stand anything bigger than my boat or snowmobiles hooked to the bumper. Even my 18 ft car trailer is awful empty. Good Luck
