Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Which is the right lift pump

A friend called the other day with a 98. 5 and 92,000 miles, auto transmission (w/ mystery switch and exh brake). He had his fuel filter changed two weeks ago and now his truck "dies" every once in a while when he stops (I asked if he forgot to turn off the "switch:rolleyes: "). The truck also idles rough. I offered to have him come over to check his lift pump pressure (he has not shown up yet-nor does he have a fuel pressure guage). I mentioned he could "resecure" all of the grounding straps he could find under the hood and dash.

I told him I thought the chances of the problem being a failed lift pump at 75%. He has been very happy with the pickup until now. He does belong to the TDR, yet does not access this board.

What other things might be going "south" to cause the symptoms I have tried to convey?

lift pump

Steve,

The lift pump is very easy to check and only takes a minute. If it is bad it needs to be replaced before it takes out the very expensive injection pump. Best to get a fuel pressure gauge in the truck so the pressure can be checked while driving. They are less than $100 from Genos and worth every penny.
