Hiya peoples -

So I'm about 1/2 way through the Monster Garage thing on the 'ole Ramcharger, and I needs some paint. I want to paint the thing the same way they did that truck in that show Simon and Simon - you know, that big honkin orange/redish Dodge in the show that had POWER WAGON sideways just at the front of the bed... and I need the paint codes or at least a real good photo of that color combo. I'm pretty sure it was a factory combo even if a rare one... but that's what I need. Any idears???

Much grass,

- Sam

I believe they called it the "Macho Wagon" or something like that. Have you been to www.ramchargercentral.com with this question? I have seen them around on the web, can't locate a pic right now though.

There is alot of independant cites with pics out of sales brochures. Some real nice ones.

Mike, we seem to be sharing the same brain :-laf - I actually found that RCC site last night - wow, good stuff! Perfect place for me to talk Ramchargers - this is gonna be fun. I think you're right about the macho wagon. I'n not sure if I'll be able to get the codes, but I'm thinking maybe Mother Mopar might have them, eh? Heck - worth a call. Thanks Mike!

The Macho was for 5 years 78-82, the one you're talking about was from 79-80, the there was 5 sets of decals for it Left/right side, hood & cowl, 2 on the tail gate. In 1981-82 it was called the Macho Sport.

Seems to me any auto body shop or paint supplier (DuPont, Ditzler, MartinSenior, etc) worth their salt should be able to supply the the paint codes, just a matter of finding one who has been in business or has books going back to 78-82. I think my brother tossed all the books from my fathers old shop, otherwise I could have gotten the paint code in less time than it took to type this. Mitchell repair manuals also list paint codes for special packages as you are mentioning, so you can order the correct decal sets(Macho Wagon). I did a quick search and found the following: #ad

Hope this helps

this is fantastic help fellas - thanks for the links and leads! I'm going to build the RC Macho Wagon style, but I'm going to use a dark semiflat garnet red and a dark yellow/orange stripe - should loog real clean and nice - kind of like urban camo but different... and all business.

I just towed the 80 donor truck into my shop and will start to strip the parts I need off of it, mainly the in-frame gas tank and filler neck, and free up the room under the back of the truck for the spare... . if it'll fit that it... hmm, gotta go measure that out - well either way swap tanks and a bunch of little things to make the old RC easier to operate.

since it was off.....grap me a restoration

well y'all, I've decided it will be better and easier for me to just do a full restification of the ole Ramcharger verses a partial one. Mainly because right after the RC is done the diesel goes in the 'Monster Garage' for the big build and that's gonna take at least a year, and I don't want the RC half-baked for that long. Soooo, the past few days I've been gutting the RC, and tonight the tub comes off and goes on the rotisserie. Then the chassis, tub, roof/top, and front clip go to get blasted with fertilizer (like sand blasting but lots cleaner and user-friendly) this Friday, and then the bodywork starts - some rust repair, body modifications, and custom work like full roll cage, tilt front clip, and a couple other goodies :-laf .

I'm going to paint it a variation of the 'Macho' scheme from the 1979 power wagons, and the nice part is while the tub is off I can do the chassis nice and clean with no obstructions. So, I'll post pics of the project in one of the other forums as this will be a non-diesel project.

Thanks for your help everyone with codes and paint schemes!
