Cleaning AFE filters

I have 2 HEAVILY soiled AFE stage 2 PG7 filters. They are both black and I can't get them to even lighten up a little bit. Is there another way other than the manufactures kits for cleaning these filters?



Has anyone heard of a true flow XDi air filter system? They have them for our trucks but I have never heard of them. So far the best thing I like about them is that they are oil free.



The PG7 filters are about $100 a piece last time I looked so I would like to keep the two I have but I think my milage is suffering from the clogged filters.

Castrol Super Clean mixed 50/50 will degrease just about anything. Use same as filter cleaner. If you can see light through the filter then clogged is not your problem. I use the overboot & keep it rinsed

i soak mine in a tub of water with Dawn dishwashing liquid in it... about 30 minutes in warm water does it... . a few times it took 2 soakings... the cleaner that comes with the filter is junk... I could get it cleaner by pi$$ing on the filter :-laf

After messing around with all crap asst. w/ cleaning my afe- I called a diesel shop here in Omaha and they clean and re-oil it for $5 a pop. I can't complain as the filters look like new and I "trust" that they have been re-oiled better than what I could do at home.

I clean mine w/ hot water and the simple green thats purple and they look good as new!

I use dish soap and hot water. Do it a couple times and the dry it well. Oil it and then blow out the excess oil.

I too had a tough time cleaning my AFE filter with their cleaning product. I had some K & N cleaner and tried that. That did the trick. Will try some of the methods listed here when I run out of the K & N cleaner.

Moral of story is buy 2 filters & always keep one clean & ready. DO NOT forget them
