We are cleaning up a 100 year old cedar chest. We have the outside cleaned satisfactorily, but the interior cedar lining is very dry, and even with light sanding, the cedar aroma is just about non-existent.

Is there a good product to use on the old dry cedar that will restore the cedar aroma without leaving an oily residue? My wife wants to use the old cedar chest for storing some her late grandmother's handmade quilts.

Wonder if using cedar chips in a net bag would solve the issue of the insect rejection that is with cedar and then all you would have to do is keep the interior wood clean. though I did find this by Googling 'cedar oil':

Many other options existed also.
