Here's kind of a silly question but whats the best way to clean the engine surfaces ? Can i power wash everything or should i use a product ? Got my truck in March and i'm sick of looking at the dirt but dont want to screw it up ! Thanks !!!

I use Simple Green to clean my engine... After a good coat of Simple Green I use a water hose and wash it all off. I just limit the direct spray on the breather and alternator. I do this after I change the fuel filter to wash off the little bit of fuel that comes out of the bleed bolt. .

I normally let it sit with the hood up for a while to let it dry down a little before I start it. I dont know if that makes it differents...

If you've got a lot of gunk to get off, first spray or brush kerosene or fuel oil around in your engine compartment. Let is set a few hours, then spray on the Simple Green and hose down.

I pressure wash mine maybe six times a year because my dusty driveway can really hog it up. I wrap my BD brake switch up to keep it dry, put a garbage bag over the BHAF and spray it down with either Simple Green or Castrol. I don't get directly on the alternator unless it is really dirty from soot off my ATS manifold and it is a real hot day so I know it will dry. I like to have the engine slightly warm but not hot enough to evaporate the cleaner.

Cleaner

Another good strong cleaner is "Oil Eater". You can buy it at Cosco in gal. jug. I stopped buying whitwall cleaner when I found out how good this works and its cheap:D

I use Castrol Super Clean. Much better than Simple Green. Available at WallyMart

i also use both products above, i also spray the rear end and the frame, makes both of them a nice dark clean origninal black color again.
