I have never cleaned my engine..... I have always wanted to, but fear all that water and all of those electrical connections, etc. How do you all clean yours... ..... High pressure/Low pressure???? What kind of cleaner????? How long do u let it set before rinsing of your cleaner??? etc. , etc. , etc. ????

When is cool, spray it down with simple green, let it soak for a minute and then hose off with a garden hose. Don't let the simple green dry out, do it a couple of times if the grime is stubborn. I do mine once a month or a bit more often and have never had any trouble. I cannot stand a dirty engine or leaks. Mine looks a lot like it did when it was built under the hood. Hope this helps.

Thanks LSMITH, I did a search and found a thread all about this. Should have done the search before posting this..... Thanks again.

Something I found out about Simple Green is it works better if the engine is wet before you apply it. Something about the formulation in Simple Green needs the water to help it break up and disperse/suspend grease particles. I've been using thier "Automotive Pro-Series" formula (can be found at Auto Zone) with good results. :)

Simple Green is some great stuff. I have used it on both my trucks, and the engine compartments always looked soptless. One thing to NEVER use, is Castrol Super Clean. That stuff is very corrosive!!!

there was a test done by the military with the citrus based cleaners. It does eat away at the aluminum. They soak bare aluminum for a few hours in the different "natural" acid based cleaners and found the piece to have lost weight..... meaning material was removed.

Seems to be fine on painted surfaces. Just don't leave it on long on bare metal.

Every time I wash my truck I just use the last of the soapy water , a sponge and dip brush. If you keep on top if it, it's not much todo and stays clean.

When you wash down the (cold) engine with the hose, just stay away from high pressure and as fine stream. Use a spray at low pressure.

The cheap engine degreaser from Wally World works pretty good.

Only 78 cents a can too. Spray it on, let it soak, and hose it off. repeat as needed. Good ole WD-40 does some amazing things too. :)
