I changed my pads today, and when I spun the rotor around on the drivers side, it had some play in it, and made a clicking noise back in the axleshaft it sounded like. I had been hearing it for sometime while driving and thought it was a dust shield rubbing on the rotor or something. I have no idea what this is, universal joint? the passenger side is fine.

Could it be a bearing going bad within the hub/wheel bearing?
Does it make noise when driving or turning?

yeah, I actually had to find out the hard way. It was the hub assembly, went out on me a few miles from my house, the whole thing came apart, I wish I would have dug deeper into it when I was doing the brakes. Put a new one on from Napa, brakes better than it ever has.
