I've been noticing a clicking coming from the front end of the truck. I understand that when in 4WD that the truck will jerk when cutting the wheels and make some clicking noise, but this is happening even when in 2WD. It is most noticeable when cutting the steering in either direction. What could be causing this? I have about 15K of the 75K extended warranty left so I'd like to get this fixed before the warranty runs out...

Thanks guys,
Jon

Check the control arms for loose bolts. My left front upper control arm bolt was loose/spinning and when I applied the brakes it would make a noise/click. Also when you moved the steering wheel it would make noise too (the engine was off and the truck was parked).

I found the problem. It's on the driver's side. The part that connects to the wheel from the "transaxle?" has a lot of play. I don't know what the part it called, but the one on the passenger side is tight.

You don't have a transaxle in your truck. Does it look like a ujoint? Axle ujoint?
There is a u-joint right at the wheel. As best as I can see, it connects to the brake hub on one side and to a short "axle" that goes into a rectangular shaped aluminum casting. Where the axle goes into the casting is where it it loose. Sorry for the lame description...

cv shaft @ 400. 00. just replaced mine about 8 mos. ago and it is going bad again. You will have to beat the h#$% out of it to break it loose.

I went to my mechanic for regular maintenance and he took a look at it. The Left outer u-joint is shot. Also, the right ball joint is shot and the left is getting there. Don't you just love moving parts with no grease fittings...

Oh, almost forgot... my mech also said that the shifting issue described in an earlier post sounds like the synchronizer. Intermittent getting into/out of gear, have to put the shifter at the "gate" and slowly let out the clutch. Any thoughts on this explanation?

clicking

I had a clicking a while after having new 35x12. 50 tires installed. On sharp turns going slow I heard it. It was loose lugs. The air gun left some looser than others. I tightened all with torque wrench to specs and noise gone.
