I recently moved to Denver from Orlando. On the drive home from my last day of work I lost 5th gear. I decided to leave the truck in Orlando until I could fix it. In late September I fixed my lost 5th gear problem with quad4x4's Torque King Retrofit Kit. Then after a little in town driving, I drove from Orlando to Denver. Most of the way through Kansas (1500 miles or so) I started hearing a clicking while driving in 5th gear. The clicking gets louder when I accelerate and can completely go away when I am coasting downhill. The noise doesn't start until I shift into 5th, but can at rare times continue when I downshift when I have been driving for a while. I feared that the rear lock nut I had just installed had come loose and was spinning around the shaft. I purchased a borescope and looked through the fill plug, it appears that the 5th gear, washer, and nuts are still securely in place. I am beginning to think it might be the 5th gear synchro that is making the noise, although I can't think of anything I have done that would affect it.
If anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate it. Also since I typically do my own work on the truck and I now live in an apartment and none of the friends I have in Denver have suitable driveways or garages, does anyone know of a place where I can do my own work or a trustworthy and knowledgeable shop?
