Hi all, been trying to track this down for a few weeks now and decided to get some more brain share on it.

My truck has this odd clicking feeling that I can feel in both the steering wheel and the gas pedal. It definitely seems like its coming from within the steering column but not sure where to go from there.

The odd thing about it is that it only starts doing it once the truck is warmed up ( leading me to wonder if its something under the hood where it gets warm) and ONLY when I start to the turn the wheel right, like as soon as I start turning the wheel to the right is when it clicks/taps. It does not make the noise when turning the wheel left.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so, insight would be greatly appreciated.

Truck details should be in my sig but one thing not there, I have upgraded every possible steering component within the last year minus the axle / knuckles.

Thanks

I've had the wheel, clock spring and turn signal lever assembly off (like the picture in the other thread you posted in) and the click was still there. I shot lube in the bearings and dripped lube oil everywhere I thought might be the cause and the clicking was still there. It could be felt strongest in the ignition switch on the right and the park interlock on the left. The bracket that holds them on has those pesky anti tamper torx head screws so I couldn't pull it off. Doesn't help you much, but it does narrow it down to the bearing or other internal parts on the "non serviceable" steering column. Too bad Baracuda never dissected his old one to find the cause.

My 2010 had the column clicking when turning, dealer rebuilt the column, no more clicky

Most likely they replaced the column,no repair parts are available but many parts do get transfered from the old column.

Grasp the steering wheel at the 9 and 3 o'clock positions, and again at the 12 and 6 o'clock positions and attempt to rock the steering wheel back and forth and up and down. If there is excessive movement or an audible clunking or grinding sound, replace the steering column (Refer to 19 - Steering/Column - Removal) .From the fsm

Thanks guys! Looks like I have my work cut out for me. Any idea what the part number for the right column is?

Figure an update is needed. Since lubing the column bearings with spray white lube and dripping oil on any part that looked like it could rub on something, the snapping/clicking has stopped. Why it did not immediately stop, who knows? Maybe the steering shaft should have been turned lock to lock while the bearings were lubed or maybe some of the lube ran down into whatever was binding?

At least IT HAS STOPPED!! For now anyway, time will tell if it comes back.
