To hook up lights to the dimming resister the book says to disconnect the battery and pry off the cover. The prying is the part that scares me. I'm sure the plastic clips will be sacrificed. Anybody have a better way of doing this?

If you are looking for a wire that dims the lights,say to add gauge lights, try behind the radio. In the grey connector,some connectors may be black, there is a orange wire that is controlled by the rehostat. This will be a lot easier than prying the cover off.

Gary, if you are hooking up guage lighting, look under the dash, behind the cig lighter. There is a brown/orange pair, tap into the orange. It worked fine for me.

Gary, the cluster comes off easily. Just pull on each side little by little all the way aroung and it comes right off. I was nervous the first time but it was easy. The clips are the push in style and are held in with light resistence, they are not the type that lock in place. Those babies would breack right off.

Why not just use tap a fuse, worked great for me and others.

Avoid the fuse taps... I have seen more than a few go bad. Best way is to tie into the TAN wire on the back of the headlamp switch. That will give you the dimming control you want. Be sure to solder the joint, and don't use Scotch-Locks! #ad


The bezel just snaps off real easy. I have yet to break one, and I have taken dozens of them off. #ad
 
Evan, I am getting ready to put in the autometer-ultra lites in the A pillar (boost and pyro). Where would you recomend to tap for lights in the gauges, I want them to dim with the dash lights. The truck is a 96. Also how big a hole should I drill in the A pillar for the wiring ? I am getting the full A pillar. Any detailed info you guys can give me would be great !! #ad
