I have a customer with a 2001 NV5600 truck. The engine has larger injectors and turbo, not sure what kind of power it is making for sure but I know it will push over 40 pounds of boost. He pulls a 8-10,000 pound trailer all the time for his business. Anyhow I put a southbend 1947-o-hd clutch rated at 425 hp in it a couple years ago. It was fine for a while but has started to slip. I talked to southbend and they are giving options of 1947 ofe rated at 475 hp or sdd3250-6-org dual disc rated at 550 hp. Doe anyone have experience with either one. I am thinking the ceramic single disc will be too grabby on take off and they said it would be also. Anyone have experience with the dual disc? They said it would engage smoothly. He travels quite a bit in this truck so needs to be reliable.
Thanks,
Matt

Some years back a buddy of mine had an 01, 3500 that he used for daily driver and hauling his travel trailer, not sure on the weight of the trailer and so forth but it was a pretty big one = 3 pop-outs. Anyway he had quite a few power adders, such as: Edge Drag Comp, Big fuel tubes, Mach 5 injectors, water meth injection and a nice set of twin turbos. Prior to adding the twins, water meth and big fuel tubes the truck made 500+ to the rear wheels. I'll tell you this (with all the power adders on it) when he would take off in 2nd gear, slide into 3rd and then nail it my feet would come off the floor!!!
Anyhow, he changed his clutch to the South Bend dual disc and absolutely loved it. Didn't chatter whether he was pulling his trailer or just normal driving.
I'm sure some other folks will provide their first hand opinions, just give it a little more time.

SBC hands down is my vote, but there are good products out there from other vendors.

I have run and sold many SBC clutches and hydraulics with nothing but the best results and product support from Peter and his crew.

Most problems you hear of related to clutch replacement are install related 90% of the time and 8% due to a bad product application choice by the truck owner.

Yes I agree on going back with south bend. I think the truck is just a little too much for what we put in last time. Just curious how the heavier single disc would be as far as engagement. He drives real easy 95% of the time.

Call Peter and be honest with him about the truck and what he wants to do with it. He’ll steer you to the right clutch.
