I have a 93 with a 5 speed manual trans. with 81000 miles on it. At around 3000 miles my clutch began to chatter when trying to move my 5th wheel trailer in revearse. It has gotten worse over time, but i have no slippage problems, just a bad jerking when trying to back up the trl. The clutch will just not slip to ease back slowly and it is starting this in the forward gears on take off. I am preparing to replace the clutch and am wondering which type should I replace it with, I do mostly towing a 8000 pound trailer. I have not modified the engine, it is as it came from the factory.

Give South Bend Clutch a call, the guys there seemed to know what they are talking about. I installed a new OEM Sachs pressure plate, clutch disk and throw out bearing their part #CA-0087 (3 piece clutch kit)cost me $525 w/shipping. I think that set up is good for 800 ft lbs of torque, but if you need more they can set you up. I also installed their "Kevlar" Pilot bearing as well. SBC phone # 219-256-5064

Do you have a limited slip rear differential? It sounds like your truck is doing the same thing mine is. If the chatter is worse when turning the wheel, and pushing or pulling a heavy load, then it is probably the clutches in your rear differential. When the rear end shutters, it can easily be mistaken for clutch chatter. At 216K, my clutches are shot in the rear differential.

You might want to look for a service bulletin (I'm pretty sure it's in Dave Fritz's Ram Page) that talks about shimming the differential to change the angle of the U-joints, it is a fairly common problem, especially when moving a heavy load. I haven't had the problem, but have seen others talking about it, you might try searching the archives.
Good Luck,
Caleb
