Today I replaced the master and slave cylender on my truck, bled them and still no releasing from the clutch. SO, I guess its new clutch time. My question is, should I replace it with a stock, cheaper and more economical unit, or wait another week without a set of wheels and throw down for a more expensive clutch that will handle more? I don't plan on doing any BIG mods to my 12 Valve in the next 6 months, untill I get a better paying job. But when I do, I want to do alot. So i was thinking cheap one now, just to get me on the road, then when I can afford it, go back in and put a 6 spd and higher HP clutch. Any words of wisom? I'm new to this game. Thanks for the input!

how big are you talking. i just got a southbend ofe installed yesterday and i dont really plan on slipping it for a while. any heavy towing or sled pulling? is a six speed swap a definate or maybe?

six speed is coming, no doubt, just a matter of when. I don't pull anything really, just a 30 ft bumper pull travel trailer sometimes, I think the tag said 7Kibs. No sled pulling, but when I pull a trailer, I'm not the guy in the slow lane, I'm in the hammer lane running 5 over the speed limit, and did I mention I dont like slowing down for hills? My truck is pretty much stock right now, just a fleetguard air filter and dumped exhaust. How do I make my truck profile show up on the bottom of my posts? Thanks

reason i asked about the 6 speed is you could replace the clutch with a dual disk or a clutch made for an 1 3/8" input shaft and also upgrade your input shaft on your 5spd. this way you have a clutch that can take whatever you throw at it and when you swap out trannys you dont have to buy a new clutch. i asked about the 5to6 swap before but came to the conclusion that is just wasnt worth the cash. youll have to pay up big time now and youll loose the 850bucks you pay for the shaft but you cant do all the power bombs you want and do the transmission further down the road. if your happy going slow, buy the cheap stocker and do the transmission swap and another clutch before you get to add any hp. just toasted my stock replacement with 30k on it. wish i would have done the southbend the first time.

Yea its looking like I'm gonna get a better than stock, but not a high dollar one as of right now. And I have also come to the conclusion, that a 6 spd is also out of the question, unless I find one somewere in the weeds, HAHAHA. I'll just fix the old 5 spd first. ok, next question, who has good prices on a better than stock clutch?

I don't have the number on me now but Roger at Asheville Cluth and Brake makes a mean replacement clutch for less money than I can find anywhere. I have more "pucks" than stock replacements for a 5Ton 250HP Cummins powered military 6X6! Holds great and cost me less than a stock replacement. Thats Asheville NC area code 828. Good luck
