I installed a south bend dd clutch about 10k miles ago and was happy with everything but where the clutch engaged. It was dang near all the way at the top, hard to be smooth with it. Not too bad for me to drive but man when some one else drives its rough on everything.

I replaced my master and a slave cylinder with little to no change.

South bend offers an adjustable Master cyl rod for the 98-02 but nothing for the older trucks.

Finally I called southbend. They said simple, cut 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch off of the slave cyl rod. ???? I thought about this for two days and couldn't wrap my mind around how it would change a dang thing. Welp, I cut a 1/2" off tonight and it made a major change towards the floor. Ended up I trimmed about another 1/8" off and liked it.

I may end up taking more off but it's better to sneak up on it. Don't need a " I cut it twice and it's still too short. "

I am with you, can't quite understand what changed here. If the slave self adjusts, would it not be the same stroke?? Also if you cut off too much would the slave max out it's stroke and hit the snap ring stop and not release?? If it did hit the end of it's stroke, would the master blow it to smithereens?? Strange:confused:

I dunno. Like I said pondered on it two days, still couldn't figure it. But it works great. Best drive to work ever this morning with the mod done.
