have new 05 6speed 3. 73 gears--been driving manuals for many years--last truck 5 speed powerjoke, for 10 years!

That said, this truck when just shifting easy, no lead foot---when I let the clutch out, it just feels like it hits hard! I have to really try hard and not let the clutch out to fast---but then It is easy to/slip???

Is it me, or am I use to the (dual mass) that was in the powerjoke??

Someone else in another type car said they had a similar problem with there standerd--and the dealer put in some kind of (idle) modulator---and now it shifts perfect!! This truck only has 5000 miles on it?? I'll take any input--thanks, R

i've never noticed any problems with mine, although if someone mucks around with my setting son the seat and pedals [both power adjust] then the first time i go to drive before i notice they have been changed, the clutching feels different and i get jerky actuation [driver error there] but change settings back to where i want them and it's good [need to remember to set everything exactally where i want things then pull the fuses... ]

It's an 05 is it a G56? or NV5600?? If it was an early build it would be the 5600, if you just got it it maybe the new G56.

yes--NV5600 it is in the title of first post

NV 5600 would be correct--when I shift, and let out the clutch it feels as if I'm letting the clutch out to quick, but like I said been driving sticks along time----maybe it is just me---????

Perhaps it has something to do with your timing of clutching/shifting. I'm 33, been driving sticks since I was 13, learned on a '61 Bug and an old Jeep. Anyway, when I got my CTD, I thought I forgot how to shift. Funny, since I had a stick Toy Camry that same day.

I think the electronic throttle on these trucks take a bit to get used to. I had to re-learn how to shift with this truck/transmission. Now that I'm used to it, I shift so smoothly you'd think it was an auto. Adjust your driving a bit, and you'll get used to it. I do a bit of feathering with the clutch when I shift to keep from jerking, but I do not slip the clutch because I'm matching revs. Haven't had to heel and toe yet, but I'm sure it will happen sooner or later :D

Like JCleary said, get used to rpm matching of the gear you are going to, whether it is up or down. Keep in mind the 5-spd is wide ratio and the 6-spd is close ratio.

thanks all

I will get a chance to pull heavy this coming wk. -end--pulling 13000# 5th wheel to AZ, from AL.

I hear what you all are saying---BUT??? We have a off road dune buggie, had standards for many yrs. --still feels like I'm popping the clutch to quick?? Hits hard---also the 5speed would have been, in theory rougher--as there would be more RPM loss?? :)

Rocky, on an up shift with the Cummins and the 6-spd, the motor will decelerate faster than you can shift the heavy mass of the 6-spd. You will need to give it some throttle as you let out the clutch. When you shift and your head slings forward as you let out the clutch, the rpm is too low, if your head slings back, the rpm is too fast.

Can you get someone else who owns an NV5600 to drive it and get their comments? Maybe even a tech at the dealership. Maybe something is broken.

thanks floor it, wish I could

long story but truck is in AL. , flying out tomorrow from KC,MO. going to AL. --hooking to our 5th wheel, and dragging it out to the St. Johns area to work.

Seems like everytime I travel gas is always sky high!!!

I think, when we retire, of taking the old 5th wheel to Loretto, in Baja and fish/off road!!

Rocky, if you are going to St Johns, you must be going to work for SRP. I only live about 45-50 miles from there. Please give me a call, (I am in the phone book) I will meet you for lunch or something. I am off on the weekends. If you are going to help do an overhaul of the power plant, you will be very busy. I did one once there about 20 years ago and we worked 12 hr. shifts, 7 days a week until the repair was finished.
