I received a six speed diesel st 2500 4 x4 last month for one of my employees. Lots of power great pull with six speed buttttt have not towed anything yet just hauled 1400 lbs diesel to drill rig each day and the truck started making a hell of a racket in neutral with clutch out. Dealer says there is a recall in the making but they are still testing two setups on trucks to see what the fix is. He says it is a flywheel problem I suspect it is transmission or clutch. I was told to drive it until dodge has a fix. That seems a little stupid because it makes a hell of a racket. any ideas and yes I know about the add a quart of oil recall on six speeds. thanks pat

It will be interesting to see if the growingly notorious G56/DM flywheel become the "VP-44/LP" issue for the last half of this decade...

This is exactly why I did not get a 6 Speed. I have had nothing but problems with every manual transmission I've owned in a truck, except the tractor trailer rig I used to drive for the USAF. My 1979 Chevy 1 Ton, SRW had constant throwout bearing problems. A buddy of mine owned a '94 or '95 6 cylinder 'gasser Ram and had nothing but clutch problems.

I steer away from them, mainly because of the 12 month warrantee limitation. I don't do the towing/hauling some of the folks here do. I am sure the 6 speed is awesome for those that do not have problems, so please do not take my opinion or experiences as commonplace for most 6 speed owners.

Good luck with your problems and I hope DC comes up with a fix soon.

Cheers,

Keep us informed I have 600 miles on mine and love it. It does shift a lot different then the 01' 5spd I had.

Among other things, mine does this too. I noticed that if I wait about 30 seconds, the racket seems to stop. I'd be curious if you "waited it out" would the racket stop on yours too... . BTW -- you've gotten more information that I could regarding a possible recall. They keep telling me that they don't know anything. Like you, they tell me to "keep driving it" and that I've got a 7/70,000 warranty so I shouldn't worry.

repairs finished and on the road again

say a prayer that this does not happen again at 25,000, The little dodge dealer in montana who worked on this seems to think that clutch and flywheel are a new daimler benz design. No wonder the germans lost the war twice. Dodge needs to learn kiss keep it simple stupid. They have overdesigned this whole truck and in the process lost some of the reliability that the engine provides. Picture a little ant sized cummins engine carrying the giant dodge corporation pickup on its back. Without cummins dodge would be a pile of manure. The dealers , the service, etc are dissapointing to me but then I have seen alot of ford powerstrokes new ones in the garages replacing injectors. P. S. has anyone seen the new commercial where toby kieth drops the 150 frame section on the table between the chevy and hemi guy. Its hilarious I wonder how 3500 frame and 350 frame compare.

Thats why I got the NV5600. Tried and true!

You had better hope it doesn't break or have problems. By the end of the year you may have better luck getting parts for a Studebaker than the NV transmissions. Whatchya gonna do when DC replaces it with a G56 and DMF?

Patrick, I saw the Toby Keith commercial the other day. The first thing that came to mind was: How much did that cost FoMoCo? :-laf

Well... V1 and V2 rocket, MP-44, FW-190, ME-262, Bismark etc etc. Pretty awesome technology, just less resources and depth than us. The reasons for losing the wars can be debated to no end, but the technology of the Germans has been pretty damn amazing for the times.

NV 5600 parts

I'm not worried about NV 5600 parts. First of all they don't break. Second of all Standard Transmission will have parts for me if I ever need them. I'd be willing to bet that New Venture Gear parts and my Cummins will be around long after your automatic transmission is pushing up daisies. IMHO Ken Irwin

I'll be sure to pass that along to the individuals with the idled trucks that are scrambling to find parts or a trans. That is sure to make them feel better about their empty wallet. :)

Unless they intend to tool up to make the proprietary parts for the NV5600 that may be a stretch, but, I am sure they and others are looking for a solution as we speak.

Ok, but considering the word on the street that has all the trappings of a fools bet. I sincerely hope I and others are wrong but given the current situation there may be a whole lot of 400 lb paper weights out there.

Now your just being obnoxious, but since you have a manual I will cut you a little slack. ;) When I bought my 05 the final decision on the trans hinged on one thing - I can make a phone call to one of 4 or 5 places and solve about any known problems with the auto. Could not convince myself that was so with either of the manuals.

Its pretty annoying that a superb unit like the 5600 may be tomorrow's white elephant, but, even more disturbing is the fact a company loses one customer and its lights out. Kinda makes ya wonder what other critical pieces will end up being NS1.

IMHO.
