My clutch does not slip even under load but I've noticed the pedal feels funny when I first push it in. About the first 1 inch of travel it feels gritty. It doesn't do it when the transmission is in neutral and the clutch pedal is depressed. I already know I'll be going with the

Southbend Clutch.

Sounds like it could be a leaking slave cylinder. Did you notice any oil leaking from the bottom of the bell housing area at all(kinda makes you think the rear main is leaking)?. When mine went the other week the clutch similar stuff. It had the import feel to it(all spongy)and one time it was normal next time it was depressed it was junk. Look under the hood at the slave cylinder reservoir and see if it down at all or not. That is usually a good start... ... . Andy
