Camee to a stop sign, pushed in the clutch pedal heard a screeching noise and I could not get it out of gear. Shut the truck down put it in 1st and it started creeping with the peadl still on the floor, the clutch pedal does no good. I have to shut the truck down and restart it in gear. With the pedal all the way down it creeps or after starting the truck you cannot get it in gear. Never heard a screeching sound before like that it was not very loud kinda like a brake squeal. I have only 200k on the clicker. Sounds like time for a new clutch, anyone else have this happen? Have to nurse it to work can't afford the time off. Everything works fine once I get it rollin, just have to float it. Any ideas if it may be something else to worrry about?

Any members close that would or could lend a hand or a place to make the repair, I don't have a garage or shop that I can use. Or maybe a good reputable place to have it done.

Ok went outside and did some checking. The clutch pedal feels no different than before, still feels like there is pressure and it comes back up like it always has. I can push the pedal to the floor and relese it and I do not hear the throw bearing engageor any noise from the clutch. I am thinking the pressure plate or the disk let go. There are no leaks as far as hydraulic fluid and the resevoir is full. Looks like it may be time to call Peter for a new one. Also there are no rattles or squeaks, runs like it always has just won't go into gear and the clutch stays engaged.

The first thing to check, the clutch slave cylinder. I have had at least 8 blow out on my truck (I do almost 60 miles of stop and go driving to get to work every day, where I never get over 30 mph).
They are cheep and easy to change (compared to clutches, which I have changed 5 or 6 of in my truck).

Check with Peter at SBC, they have a heavy duty Clutch Slave Cylinder option available.

from the squeal sound and symptoms I'd say clutch plate down to rivets or pressure plate assembly shot. happened to me in a diff truck, seemed odd to wear out that way, but it did!

Well drove to work last nght 60 miles round trip. Everything works fine it's just the clutch won't disengage. I am thinking the slave cylinder is shot. I have to start it in gear and I still have a small screech at start up after that all is well. Since the transmission has to come out to make any repairs there will be an upgrade of the clutch and I am looking at Southbends Con Ofe.

John,

Appreciate the offer, I got a price for R/R for $400 in and out in a day. Think I will go that route.

Anyone here ever dealt with Macs located south of Benbrook, TX? I pulled their name off of Southbends website.

 Well duh, my bad. I didn't even think about that. I was thinking that the slave cylinder was inside the bell housing.

If you're driving all these miles and it's not slipping, it's probably not the clutch itself.

It could be the master/slave, but the loud screech makes me lean towards the throwout bearing (froze and/or broke) or the throwout arm is somehow out of place. Hopefully something cheap and easy.

Set the brake and have somebody push the clutch pedal while you look at the slave cylinder and throwout arm. With a little luck, you'll have little or no movement and just a simple hydraulic problem.

Well I replaced the master and slave cylinder. It is working to some extent. I used to have about 1 1/2" travel in the clutch pedal before it engaged, now I have about 3". I have been told there is no adj. for this. Guess the clutch is going down. While the slave cylinder was out I checked the throw out arm, I could wiggle it a little not much. Not really sure which way to go from here except have the clutch replaced. I found an installer off of Southbends website, they will do it in a day for $400 R/R if the clutch if purchased from them. If anyone has an idea or two I would definitely appreciate it, Thanks guys.
