Is there some kind of secret as to how to get these things installed correctly the first time... . never mind the 2nd and 3 rd times !!#@$%! Left for oklahoma last night, go to get off I 40 in Albuq. and the damn clutch was gone, could not get outta gear, so after sitting at the J for 6 hours got it towed to a dealer there and rented a gasser Ram to come home with... damn thing sucked up $160 of fuel for 570 miles !!!!!!!! Now for a little nap and start heading back that way, supposed to be ready tomorrow at lunch time!:{ Already :-{} at the local shop that has been working on it, and "informed" them that they will be covering everything on this fiasco, including the delivery charge for the trailers.

Yikes! I can understand your frustration. Was the whole assembly replaced as a unit? You're not supposed to replace individual components in it.

Ryan

The shop here in town replaced the master and slave as seperate units from what I can see, dealer in Albuq says it is a sealed unit, should be ready this afternoon, so out the door I go momentarily and another wasted 1140 miles and 20 hours non stop!!!! #@$%!

We suggest that when the master and slave are installed that the installer take the rod end of the slave and stroke it back slowly to remove all air from the system... . in most cases he can stroke the rod 5 or 6 times and remove all the trapped air..... than install the slave to the bell housing... .

Hope this helps... . oh BTW the master is installed on the firewall when this is done... . we've tried to do this on the bench and than install it but for us it seems easier to do it on the truck... .

One last thought... the plastic cap that holds the slave retracted during shipping is to stay on the end of the rod... and any set screws in the slave are not for bleeding unless noted in the instructions... . in most cases slaves have a set screw that holds internal parts in place... removing this set screw turns them loose and than reinstalling it usually will cause problems...

Jim, the ones you guys replace, they are all "one piece" , correct? Just got in and clutch feels like it used to before the local yahoos started messing with it. The old line was in there, dealer in Albuq replaced it all. I'm almost willing to bet the place here was trying to "rebuild" my old one, perhaps like you would a wheel cylinder maybe? Already called them yesterday and informed them they have a pretty hefty bill they are going to reimburse me for... . heaven forbid they feed me any crap about it !!;)

fwiw, highway driving without a clutch pedal is pretty easy... only crummy part is when you have to come to a complete stop, then you gotta kill the engine and fire it back up in gear.

Problem being , getting 9100# of truck moving and trying to speed shift a 5600, these things do not do that too well!

I shifted my 5600 w/o the clutch a few times, but yeah, they don't really like it, especially if they've got some miles on them.

I guess my point was, you reallly should only have to stop every 400 miles or so... so that's three stops over a 1200 mile trip. while not great for the starter, you CAN get a 9100 truck started in gear, I just wouldn't recomend trying it w/ the truck facing uphill ;) and once rolling, you don't really need to downshift

I say this because I've BTDT when my clutch blew a spring and hung up and wouldn't release. :(

Then we have construction zones, RV'ers, 35 MPH trucks trying to pass 33 MPH trucks:rolleyes:, gotta love it!! :-laf

lol, I know what you mean... I had to drive across DFW at 3PM on a friday with no clutch pedal... I was able to limp her home without stopping a single time!!! it got pretty close a couple times. I had the truck fighting against the brakes in 1st gear a couple times when traffic came to a crawl, but I didn't have to kill it and start it in gear a single time after the first time :)

that was with a 5sp though. my 6sp was grumpy when I'd downshift it without the clutch. 5th and 4th gear didn't like to play nice
