2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission clutch install

I'm looking for a reputable mechanic to install a new clutch on my 24valve 5 speed. I live in Santa Rosa, California. I've heard about a shop in Fortuna and a shop in Redding. I'm looking for something a little closer.

How about a dealer? I hate to say it but for a stock clutch they should do a pretty good job, it may be expensive though. Or you could look on a site like South Bends and find a SB dealer/installer and have them do it, hopefully anyone SB deals with would know what they are doing.

clutches are easy to put in and very minimal tools needed for the swap... you may want to try this yourself to save some bucks or look up some local members and ask for help... it will be a great lesson learned if you plan on keeping your CTD any amount of time... Chris

I thought about doing it myself, however I don't have the tools or the space. I am installing a South Bend Clutch.

I would check with some local TDR members about giving you a hand. It doesn't require many tools at all just time. I did mine by myself last weekend in about 6 hours start to finish. I dropped the driveshafts, 6 nuts and linkage to remove transfer(13 mm wrench), pull the shift boots and lever off inside, unplug reverse switch and pull 4 18mm bolts out of bellhousing, remove 6 bolts holding the bellhousing to the engine and there is the clutch,oops forgot to mention the slave removal and vacuum lines to transfer and the crossmember but that stuff is easy, clutch comes off the flywheel with 6 bolts, and the flywheel comes off if you need it ground. A handful of wrenches is all it takes. If I was closer I would say bring it over and I would show you how to do it. Up for a road trip? Chris in Iowa

Add a torque wrench and a transmission jack to your "handful" of tools. Seriously though, if you want to do it yourself, the knowledge is on here.

Don't forget a bottle jack and 2x4 to spread the frame when removing and reinstalling the crossmember.
