Hi All,



Well, while towing my little Suzuki Samurai today up the Beeline here in Arizona, the first indications of a clutch failure became apparent when shifting into 5th up a grade. The slipping is unmistakable. I am now in need of a new one; I have heard good things about the South Bend and have sourced one over at TST. First, with the MU 0090 Rally, do I need any other additional parts? I am not qualified enough to tackle this huge task, so I am outsourcing to my good mechanic buddy. Secondly, is the South Bend the way to go?

Clutch

Chis, I'm a very happy South Bend user. We did my SB OFE at a bomb party. It took 3 of us about 5 hours including resurfacing the fly wheel. You will need a really good transmission jack and a frame speader or a bottle jack.
 
I have put a South Bend duel disc in my truck and love it. They make a street version that isn't as crazy as the pulling clutch. If you are wanting a very strong and reliable go duel disc. But South Bend also makes other very good clutches.

On the TST website, they offer the South Bend clutches with and without a Flywheel exchange. Do I need to remachine or change out the flywheel? I don't really understand why they would offer this option. They claim the flywheel is undersized. What do you think? The cost difference is substantial.

What your looking at is two entirely different clutches. The ones that have "exhange flywheels" are upgraded 13-1. 25" clutches that require a re-drilled flywheel over a stock 12" clutch. They are designed for high HP applications for people who tow over 8,000lbs regularly.



If you towing over 8K lbs regularly and buy a standard size clutch and it gets destroyed by over-stressing it SBC will void your warrenty on it. You need to visit South Bends website @ www.southbendclutch.com Once you click on the Dodge catalog it will prompt a page that explains in detail what I summerized above.



If you don't tow over 8K lbs regularly then you can save a lot of money and by a standard 12" Rally or Con O. If you have to spend a little more money on the heavier duty clutch then you will recieve the flywheel when you order it and you have to send your OEM flywheel back to SBC.



The Dual Disk is for HIGH HP applications or sled pulling, and from seeing your post and your sig I don't believe you will need anywhere near that amount of clutch. Oh yeah... ... and those cost A LOT! more than a single disk! :eek: :-laf

I guess in the years of blowing smoke with this thing I never gave the clutch much attention. Worked fine until the last weekend! Even the resevior showed no signs of wear on the pressure plate. Oh well... Gotta fix it.
