Well today I was driving home with the Smarty set on #1 and I stood on the pedal and the clutch slipped :--) That is only 30hp!!!!! It looks like I am going to be ordering a new clutch sooner than I thought. So what would you guys recommend? South Bend or something else? And if I went with the South Bend should I go with the Con OFE or the Con FE? I am heading back to Oklahoma In a week and I could go to Blumenthals and get a clutch from them. I do quite a bit of pulling and I also want to be able to put my Smarty on #9 and whoop up on my old man's 12 valve when he starts talking crap. I'd appreciate any info. I've never messed with a clutch before and dont really know what I need.

I like me FE for holding power but the driveability of it could be better. I will be getting a street DD next time without a doubt, lighter than the sledpuller clutches but hold more power than the FE but can be slipped a bit for some nice 3rd gear launches!

Well on the web site they say the Con OFE is better for pulling heavy loads and the Con FE is a better hot rod/street clutch. But I know I will have more than 450 rear wheel HP.

Clutch just cant hold on!!!!

funny i feel the same way. i have talked to peter at southbend and i will be buying a con fe.

Howard, The OFE will slip a bit more than the FE which makes it smoother off the line and better for towing. You must remember that HP isnt really what slips clutches its the TQ, and the Smarty by far has the most bottom end I have ever seen on any of my trucks ive had. Also towing at moderate HP/TQ levels will only quicken the slipping of any clutch. If you wanna run #9 I dont know if an OFE will last to long. Peter at SBC underrates his clutches and they will hold more power than stated but it all depends on your driving characteristics.

When it comes to clutches it better to have a ton of overkill than to be right at the limit. Do it right the first time and dont worry about it.
