What kind of life should one expect from a clutch in a 5 spd. that might just be moderately B. O. M. B. ed.

Thanks.

I have 27k

I have 80K towing a 20K goosenck.

BOMBed my baby with a PE COMP and DD1's (Along with gauges, Air Filter, and exhaust mods)

Well, after a little over 1,000 Miles my 5-speed clutch won't hold WOT in 4th and 5th gear below 2,600-2,700RPM.

At first the clutch slipped like a torque converter,, now at 1,600RPM in 4th gear WOT (COMP on 5/5) I can get redline as soon as the turbo spools up. Same with 5th gear.

2nd and 3rd gear hold the power,, or maybe I just run through the gears so fast, I can't tell. :D I have only lost one street race so far,, to a modified Camaro. I used to be able to be the stock V-8's, but not with this slipping clutch.

To show the power I', puting out, here's a quick tally.

3. D-MAx's

1. Tahoe

2. Suburban's

1. ~'80's Chevy blazer

1. ~'80's modified Chevy 1500

1. Honda Civic, complete with resonator and rear spoiler

1. Dodge 3500 (just like mine, without camper and grill guard, but Stock)

1 WR6 Pontiac Firebird (was going uphill :) )

and generally anybody else who needs a bit of Cummins Power. (and a look at my taillights. ) :D

SO, I don't tow, but I haul, like my sig says.

With an PE EZ, I think your clutch should last a long time.

I'll let the guys with experiance answer, but, this is my story.

Baby it

I've got 50k on my stock clutch and it's still fine. Of course after I install my dd2s I might be putting one in it. The only time mine was ever slipped was when my little brother was driving. We had a light load on(7000 lbs. ) and he didn't down shift from 4th at 30 mph and got on it. Needles to say the r. p. m. s went up but the speed didn't  !I thought I was going to put one in it then. Oh yeah the edge box was all the way up. The pedal was at the top when the clutch would release. :( But I babied it for a while and it seemed to come back:) . I've since pulled in one truck pull with it(came in 3rd out of 15 trucks:cool: ). I was a little worried about it then but put it in 3-lo and held it to the floor(W. F. O. ) :D . It didn't slip at all. I've hauled loads over 20k with. I think the main thing is to make sure you use the right gear and listen for slipping and back out of it. I saw guys at the truck pull start in too high of a gear and smoke the clutch all the way. Thats not good on them ;) . Doug

level 5 of my PM3 (only) took out my clutch. :D

that's OK though, I have a MU0090 CON OFE that going in, in a few days. :D

Jim,

With a moderately upgraded truck the stock clutch will do a good job for you provided you do not do a lot of heavy hauling.

One good thing for all to remember... it won't cost you any more to do your clutch now or later. Drive it until it will not pull any more and then it is time to do the clutch. (Just try to not get stuck with a tow bill. :D )

Peter,

Was looking at the clutch you recomended, MU 0090 Con O , but, since then my mind has been turning into a BOMB bug itself!!

I am now looking at some Supermental injectors, propane, and in the future, twin turbos.

How about that clutch, I think I'll need the Con OFE. A little chatter is ok. As long as I can go WOT all the way from 1,500 RPM to redline in 5th gear.

Ya got one of those kinda clutches ?

P. S. B-Day coming up real soon. hopefully I'll get a clutch. (See truck bio)

I've got over 95K on the stock clutch and it is still holding fine. Only about the first 20k was stock, then I added 275RV injectors. About 15k ago I added the PE-EZ box. I frequently have a 20k lb GCVW when towing old engines/tractors around the western states.

Still on the stock clutch at 105k. Had the VA box on since about 32k and the 275's since about 80k. Truck pulls my trailer at a usual loaded weight of 17k gross truck & trailer. (CAT SCALE verified) Truck is usually 7750 or so so trailer just under 10k.

I have raced my truck and had fun with it. I think this is about all the stock clutch will take but so far, it has not complained at all.

55k so far.

W/ dd1's & a VA the clutch doesnt slip. Pulls a load w/ no slip. But found this is about all it'll take. Turn on the Blue box at 15% and it'll slip just a little. At 30%, its all over. Slip it at will, but the will isnt there. Accidently tried it at 50% once (oops!). Pulled hard... only once

Have been taking it easy for the last 5k, and the clutch seems about back to normal, will pull a load fine. Hoping it will last like DavidTD's.

Thanks, I was kinda worried because I slipped my clutch a couple of times. It has always come back though. I have DDIIm's and boost module. No other mods.
