Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Clutch Master cyl and slave cyl Bleeding

Well the 2001. 5 5 speed slave cyl went out at 118,000 mile i thought,it turned out to be the clutch master cyl that was bad,after replacing both of them,old style of course and bleeding as much air out of the closed system as i could,it was still not right (air) So i came up with a brain storm and it worked. I drilled and tapped the black cap 1/8 NPT (and removed the black rubber bladder under the cap)and hooked up a hand vacuum pump and 10 hg of vacuum air was coming up through the fluid,so i took it to 25 hg of vacuum there was small bubbles,i left it on there for 10 minutes. All is well on the closed hyd system now.

Many have struggled with bleeding any type of clutch system. This is the same method that Ford has in their shop manual for the 2005 Mustang GT. It does not have a bleed screw or check valves in the connectors so every time you open it up, it leaks, and requires dry topside bleeding with vacuum bleeding. And I don't think you want to hear about the Ranger fiasco.

Hey G croyle... . I kinda thought that it would work but didn't for sure,I suppose that a person could pull a long and hard vaccum on the system and suck air past the seals but 25 hg worked fine for about 10 minutes... It sure does make a day sweeter and the clutch is happy also. .
