Clutch engagement had been acting up for two weeks. When in a parking lot doing multiple engagements of clutch, truck would start to creep and pedal woul engage lower and lower off the floor. On friday, the clutch pedal finally sank all the way to the floor, no clutch actuation at all. Had to drive home with no clutch pedal. Took out the clutch master cyl. and slave cyl. (complete assy. as sealed by Mopar) and bled on the bench. Seemed to work okay on the bench. Reinstalled, and still a soft pedal, with a squishing sound when actuated. Seems like clutch master cyl. is bypassing, as viewed by the lack of demand from the master cyl. from the reservoir. Nobody in town (dodge dealers) have the master/slave units in stock. Also they quoted $300. 00 for new. Does anybody know if there is a rebuild kit for the master cyl. ? There is a snap ring in the bore of the master cyl. , but I haven't taken apart yet. Any part numbers or sources would be appreciated. 1998. 5 24V 2500 4x4.

Diassembled master cylinder. Found the rubber plunger shutoff stop plug (not the cups) eroded.

Can't get that part anywhere. Had to buy a new master cylinder from NAPA.

Part number is UBP 350112 for future reference.

Truck fixed.

You can not

In regard to the cost, that clutch master/slave should not cost more than about $200. I know, because I am on my 4th one. The seal on the slave always begins to leak.

Check with South Bend Clutch, I think they have a replacement, but I am not sure. I just keep getting them from my local MOPAR dealer.

Clutch master/slave cylinders are not normally a dealer stock item. So it might prove difficult to find a local dealer with one in stock.

Master and SLAVE!!!

Mine cost 100. 00 from a parts house in Santa Fe Springs Ca. master and Slave, I just had that problem not too long ago I was asking St. Laurent and Fest and company to help me figure out what the heck was happening to my truck in parking lots and bumper to bumper traffic...

As a resault of this in the begining stages, I bought a SBC OFE because I thought my clutch was going out. Wrong answer, Master and Slave gone, Hey @ least I got my SBC quicker... :p

BLEEDING:

Insure master cylinder reservior is near full, with only minimal air space. Keep reservior cap and bell installed.

Remove slave from bellhousing, stroke slave piston-rod in and out slowly. System will be bled. Adjust reservior level to proper quantity.

Reinstall slave.

------------------------------------------------

MY PROBLEM:

When I disassembled my master cylinder, I found that at the end of the piston/cup & spring holder assembly there is a small viton "cap plug" The purpose of this plug is when the clutch pedal is relaxed, it allows fluid from the reservior to fill the master cylinder.

When the pedal is depressed, this plug seals off the passage to the reservior, allowing fluid to travel ONLY to the slave unit.

My viton plug had a slight tear on it, allowing fluid to take the path of least resistance... back to the reservior.

-------------------------------------------

SOLUTION: Could not find the rubber tip, even tried to make one out of viton, but it became un-glued. Bought a new master cylinder from NAPA,

$100. 00 exactly.
