driving on h/way truck started exhibiting a grinding/growling noise at any speed. while exiting h/way put trans into neutral and b/4 coming to a stop engine wanted to stall as if trans still in gear - pushed clutch in problem still the same. refueled and resumed driving for approx 10 miles and pulled off again and same symptoms occured ... appears that clutch has fully disengaged . additionally engine has developed a slight roughness to its idle since this problem started . . Clutch hydraulic system full and no visible leaks Any suugestions -- It's a 2004 3500 4wd w/ 6 spd manual Brody

Sounds like the input shaft bearing in the trans or, possibly, the bearings between the input and output shaft but they would be quiet when the trans is in 1:1 (4th?). Did you find the cause?

Is the trans full? How does the fluid look?

I believe 1:1 on the 6 spd is 5th gear.

The clutch would still relese if the trans was locked up. It sounds to me that the piliot bearing in the flywheel is the problem

That waas my first thought but it shouldn't make any noise with the clutch out because the flywheel and input shaft would be turning the same speed. Maybe there is more that one problem?
