I am trying to figure out which one of these is malufunctioning.

My truck has the NV5600, fast coolers and haisleys Street Drag HD DD clutch and peters upgraded hydralics. Never been sled pulled and have done maybe 6 4wd launches. Truck has about 57000 miles on it. Here is what is going on.

My truck is getting very grumpy going into reverse, 1st and now second. Reverse it will sit there and just grind half the time and not go in, or it will grind and then slam into gear and shutter the truck. 1st and second dont grind, but its like i feel stuff crunching when it goes in gear, half the time if i need to put it in first, i have to put it in second, roll ever so slightly and then it just slides in 1st. Reverse is the biggest culprate.

Is it my transmission needing rebuilt or is my clutch still spining when my clutch was in. I was going to drill a hole in the bell housing and shine a light but i figure i would talk to everyone here and see there opinion.

on edit, when the truck is turned off, i never had a problem enganing the transmission in any gear, it is smooth as a stock brand new truck, which makes me wonder if it is something in my transmission

Sounds like the pilot bearing is going. From my notes when I had a Haisley DD, the pilot bearing part number is:

PN# 6204-012-2RS (3/4 Bore) - Consolidated

cluch master cyclinder is brand new from peter.

Jeff K, is this kinda a know problem with the haisley clutches?

It is more of a known problem with all clutches... not just Haisley. When the pilot bearing goes bad it causes a drag on the input shaft and keeps it turning when the clutch is engaged. If your input shaft is turning, then you will have difficulty getting it into first and reverse. I just happened to have the Haisley part number because I originally bought a used haisley DD clutch and wanted to replace the pilot before I installed it and they use a different (better) bearing than the stock needle bearing.
