Clutch pedal travel

How far from the floor should the clutch pedal raise before the clutch engages? My shifting seems to have gotten jerky here lattely and It also seems that the pedal is raised almost all the way before it starts to engage. Clutch is about 1 year old and I always thought that it should start to engage about 1" off of the floor. Anybody have any ideas or does this sound normal

The hydraulically operated clutch linkage in our Rams will cause engagement near the top of pedal travel, not 1" from the floor, if the clutch is stock or designed similarly. The dual disk aftermarket clutch needs more gap because of the number of parts that need to float (two disks and a plate between them), so it may start engaging nearer the floor (especially if the disks wobble a little or the center plate is warped).

Thanks Joe for the quick reply. I guess maybe I was just losing the touch on shifting and will have to pay more attention when I shift.
