I had to pull the trans back out of the truck because I could tell the pilot was bad & I dident check the clutch when I rebuilt the trans(like an idiot)

anyway I had my local brake reliner build me a disk & bought a pilot bearing it was a small needle roller bearing which fit the input shaft perfectly but would not go into the flywheel it was like 1/32 or so too big

I called the parts store & double checked the parts # & it was corect suposedly. it was a federal mogul bearing

there was no bearing at all in the flywheel what I found was a lil bronse behind it

I remembered that my old w300 used a pilot bushing which the wall thickness was almost like pipe

I went back to the parts store & asked for a pilot bushing for a w series with a 318 & low & behold that one worked

man the trans is much quieter & shifts better it was dumb of me not to check the clutch when I had the trans out & if I continued to drive it I may have hurt my fresh trans

the pilot symptom was

depress the clutch & let up than start the engine ( clutch switch bypassed ) & the trans was nice & quiet at idle pump the clutch once engine running & the output yolk wiggled & the trans got noisy

anyway did some use bushings & some bearings? whats up with that?
