Clutch Problem/Question

Originally posted this as a transmission problem some days ago, but now believe it to be a problem with either the clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder. (Ken put me onto this on a 7/9 post. )In addition to being difficult (nearly impossible) to get into reverse and granny low, if I am stopped at a signal light while transmission is in first gear with the clutch fully engaged, after about 15-20 seconds, the truck starts to creep because the clutch appears to self-engage. If I put on the brake to stop the creep and do not take it out of gear, it will eventually lug the engine to a stop. Does this sound like one of the cylinders is dying? If so, which one? Do both have to be replaced, i. e. does the part come as a unit with both cylinders or can you buy them individually? Anyone out there with experience in this matter? Any help you can offer will be appreciated. Thanks in advance. GC

Clutch

Yes, sounds like one of the cylinders is leaking down, I think the master and slave cylinder are tied together by a plastic tube and are only servicieble as a unit. My Brother has an 89 and I think he found an aftermarket replacement. bg

Before replacing anything try changing the fluid. Clean all parts of the clutch system with a spray degreaser. Change the fluid (if this is a used truck someone may have added the wrong fluid) and run for a few days. See if this helps and check for leaks.

I would make sure everything is tight and then bleed everything for possible air in the line. I am assuming they are bleedable, I have not looked. The system may be sealed.
