I have had a southbend ofe special for a couple months now but over the last couple of days it has been hard to get in gear. It is only hard to get in gear when i am stopped when i am moving it is smooth as silk. i have checked the hydro fluid and it looks good. any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Trey

did you replace the pilot bearing at install of new clutch ?

are you sure the input shaft seated in the bearing ?

is the throw out making any unusual noise ?

how were the trans. bearings[input shaft carrier bearings smooth] before intsall ?

everything was fine before and after the install but now that it has been in for a couple months it has just started to get hard in to gear. there is a little play in the peddle that i might try and fix maybe that will help. i am going to drive it for a while to see if it will get better on its own if not then i will maybe have to pull out the trans and see whats the problem. thanks for the help.

Trey, had the same problem with my clutch. Call Peter, he will fix you up.

The problem with mine was the Pilot bearing. Mine did exactly what yours did after a few months. I pulled mine out & replace the pilot bearing & no more shifting problems from a standstill. It will get worse the more you dirve it & cause excessive wear on your shift forks if you let it go.

Peter told me it was from excessive dust created by the clutch. I have the FE. I sent the clutch back to him to check out as well. He sent me a replacement, & to be honest it felt toatlly differnt than the first one. It hasnt slipped once, I could slip the other one if I really got it hot probally casuing even more clutch dust. That stuff gets into the pilot bearing, then your input shaft hangs up & continues to spin even with the clutch pressed in.

Hope that helps.
