I need some help(For College)

Hey Fellows,

I got a question for you mechanics out there. My 95 Silverado 4x4 has a chattering clutch problem.

I have replaced the following:

Disk

Pressure Plate

Throughout Bearing

Pilot Bearing

transmission Mount

Resurfaced the Flywheel

Rear-Main Seal

The strange part it is that it don’t chatter to bad when you first run the truck, but after 30 minutes of driving, it chatters badly. The whole truck shakes bad when you pull out. Something else interesting is the clutch pedal makes a bad squeaking noise when the motor is warmed up when you push it in. When the motor is cold, it doesn’t make any noise at all. This is my daily driver truck (until I buy another Cummins next spring), so I need to get this fixed. I’m hopin its a cheap fix since I’m a poor college student.

Items I *think* might be causing the problem are:

Bad Slave or Master Cylinder

Bad Clutch Fork

Over-ground Flywheel Surface.

I am open to any suggestions, and very much appreciate any help. Thanks a bunch.

I had the same problem once in my old gasser Chevy. I would be willing to bet the throw-out bearing was put in wrong. I had the same mechanic who put the clutch in pull my transmission 3 times before I stayed and watched and seen him with my own eyes put it in wrong. It is a very easy mistake to make and the mechanic is a very reputable guy. Hope this helps, Chris

Chris,

So it happened to you once the truck warmed up? Also, how can you tell if the throw-out bearing is installed backwards? A reputable mechanic did install everything for me, but I’m going to have to take it and have him fix it.

Brandon

yeah mine was fine until it warmed also. When you take it back to the mechanic tell him to double check the throw out bearing for correct install... if he is a honest guy he will accept the fact that it can be put in wrong but regardless if you paid him to fix the truck and it isn't fixed then he needs to fix it right for you.

Does the engagement point (distance from floor) of the clutch pedal change when the truck warms up? If the clutch master cylinder is not releasing it could be partially disengaging the clutch after a few uses of the pedal. Look at the left motor mount, if it is bad it will cause chatter. You can check it by raising the hood, put the E- brake on and start up the truck and put in low, give it a little gas and slowly release the clutch, if the mount is bad the engine will raise up on the left side.

B. G. Smith,

The engagement point does not change when the engine warms up, it always catches at the top of the pedal. If forgot to mention in my first post that I had inspected the motor mounts and both checked out fine. I really appreciate the suggestions from both of you though. The noise it’s making is definitely coming form underneath the truck in the bell housing area. So it has to be either a bad fork, slave, or bad/improperly installed T/O bearing. I was reading on the Internet that it is a common mistake for mechanics to install a GM T/O bearing incorrectly (oddly enough). Either way, I’m a making an appointment next week to have it fixed, and I will let you's know what it was. Thanks again,

Brandon
