I have a problem with my clutch that comes and goes. Every now and then, I can push down on the pedal and it goes all the way to the floor and it feels like the clutch isn't working. When this happens, I have a hard time pulling the shifter out of gear and then it can be next to impossible to get it back into a gear. Is this something with the clutch itself or with the slave cylinder?

Thanks for any input,

Ben

Probably the master or slave cylinder. If something were to break on the clutch itself you wouldn't have a "comes and goes" problem; it would be much more permanent.

If you have fluid bypassing the piston in the master cylinder, the slave cylinder won't fully extend and disengage the clutch. That keeps torque on the gears, thus the increased effort while shifting.

master/slave cylinder for clutch

it is about $220 at the dealer, just replaced it last month.

this is an email I got from a parts company. would have gone with them, b ut mine went totally out and I HAD TO USE THE DEALER.

Thanks for the responses. My gut feeling was the slave cylinder. I have an appointment with a local Cummins shop to do this work, since I trust them more than the local Dodge dealer.

I am not very mechanically inclined and I did it in 1. 5 hours. Had I a decent set of tools, I could do it again in 45 minutes or less.
