I have an '05 with NV5600. I was teaching my wife how to park our 5000 lb. travel trailer. She left the parking brake on and backed up about 5 feet when I noticed smoke from under the truck.

My question is how much damage to the clutch was likely done?

Thanks,

Joe

That shouldn't have hurt the clutch at all. You don't give throttle when letting out the clutch do you?

Maybe the smoke was just dust being turned up?

I had someone driving my truck while I was loading some hay. Thought I could hear the engine lugging while it was stopped. Then I could smell it. The clutch was being cooked. By the time I had noticed it, I am sure it got very hot. After changing drivers, I could smell it for the next hour. It was not a few days later when I noticed it slipping with the TST on level 5. It does not slip on 0, but I can not turn the TST on at all. I am working on getting a new clutch within the next few weeks.

By only moving it 5 feet, I bet no harm was done to your truck. Problably harder on your brakes than anything. Time will tell. I few bombs here and there and you will be upgrading it. Mine has made it 44K miles.

good luck.

Thanks for the replies.

I could smell the burnt odor for about 5 minutes. Hopefully the damage is minmal. I'll try pulling the trailer this weekend with fingers crossed. Have no bombs on the truck yet. At 20k miles the truck has done a great job. If the clutch goes out early I will go with something stouter maybe the Southbend ConFe I have been reading about.

Thanks,

Joe
