I've been very happy with the stock clutch, but it's about time to change it out. Has anyone tried the LUK Pro Gold Series clutch?

In addition, in the past on other cars when changing the clutch, I have always changed the clutch slave and master. On my Dodge it looks like it's all one system made by AP. (excellent brand) Do you replace the whole system?

Dont wory about it, its expensive and easy to replace. I replaced my master cylinder a little over a year ago because some dumb redneck (me) didnt get the slave rod in the fork and pushed on the pedal too hard and broke the master cylinder rod. The slave rod has since ben cooked hot enough to make it change colors and it still dont leak. Find something better to spend your $$ on or send it to me. :D

At the risk of being labeled a cheerleader for SBC, call Peter.

I had a stock 96 clutch, A pro-gold (likely the first kit they shipped), and now I have a SB 13" OFE. The OFE is a little more grabby than stock but works very smoothly if you drive it a little more aggressively. The pedal effort is about the same as stock.

So far I am very happy with it. My Pro-GOLD clutch, with the 5-speed, used to slip. If I hit 3rd gear really hard it would never hook up. The OFE was installed as part of a 6-speed conversion so I can't really recreate the events with the new transmission but I don't think it will slip until I add quite a bit more power.

,

If you liked the stock clutch, just put another one in. you could buy like 4 or more stock clutches for the price of one 13" tricked out SBC models.

I agree a South Bend Clutch is better made, but if I got 110,000 miles out of a factory clutch (and counting) I just really can't justify the expense. I will call them today (SB) and talk with them.

jrs, you're right-i agree. however, if the bombing bug does bite hard (which it usually does), then you will have to switch unless you do only a small upgrade (under 40hp).

good luck

Tom

I too agree with going with a South Bend clutch. You must have some sort of bombing bug or drive it hard or the stock clutch wouldn't have gone out already!!! I took my stock clutch out of the truck with 250K miles on it and it was still good!!!!

csevers=anti sbc cheerleader

Check out other brands of clutch SBC is not the only one on the market. Try talking to Hasley Machine they carry Mcleod Clutches they may fit your price and quality needs. The 13 ofe holds the power no doubt but has other draw backs.

You can buy either end from NAPA, same as factory. Line is held in by little pins. Just flush the line with alcohol or something.

I tried the LUK Pro Gold and it didnt hold 390hp but the SBC Con O does. If you stay stock go with a stock clutch otherwise go for the SBC
